With respect I disagree. Johnson is a playa for sure.

It's a weird situation to be in. Brennan has the better arm, and was the starter prior to his injury (and was putting up good numbers).

But Johnson just seems to have a little something beyond what you see in stat sheets, a presence. Doesn't look like you can rattle him... he comes out and expects to win. You put him behind, and he's like "oh, ok, going to drive to retake the lead". That's rare in a freshman, really a lot of QBs.

wasn't he 2&0 in the games he started? I think one was Florida. That's the game UF was ahead and the game was effectively over till the UF guy threw a shoe after the 4th down, giving LSU another chance and they kicked the field goal for the win. Right?

who the hell throws a shoe?

So what was the other game?

Ole Miss. Kayshon Boutte had 308 yards receiving that night.

Ole Miss. We jumped out early, as Ole Miss qb kept throwing INTs. Eventually he quit doing that, and they started scoring at will.

At one point LSU was up 37-21, Ole Miss went on a run and halfway through the 4th Quarter Ole Miss was up 48-40, after putting together an 11 play drive. That's the type of situation a whole lot of guys just wilt in.

LSU won 53-48.

Revisionist history at its best.

I like Johnson. He's looked very good in the short time he's played so far

Right.

Fla does

But let's keep in mind- Johnson in his first start, LSU 3-5, at #6 Florida (who has a shot at Alabama and making the playoffs).
LSU barely suits the minimal amount of players to play the game.
We hang around early, keep the game from being an embarrassment (which most people expected). Led at the half 24-17.

Fla comes out and scores early and often after halftime, goes up 31-27 on two easy drives, and I think we all figured "oh well, at least we made them sweat for a half".

Instead of collapsing, the defense settles in, and Johnson leads LSU on an 84 yd drive to retake the lead 34-31.
Florida ties it with 3 minutes, leading to the shoe incident (which was 3rd down, with just under 2 minutes, and still after the penalty left LSU on the wrong side of the 50). Johnson pushes the team another 10 yds for the chance to kick a 57 yd FG with 20 seconds left, which we made.
So it wasn't like the penalty set us up, it just gave us a chance. Johnson made the most of that chance.

***Note, our coaches still almost screwed that up. We had a 1st down on the 40, with 47 seconds to go and Florida had all 3 timeouts. We ran on 1st down, lost a couple yds, and then WE take a timeout. That made zero sense then, and zero today (and it wasn't Johnson, it was Orgeron on the sideline who called it). Did the same thing with 2nd down, ran for 4 yds and called another with 32 seconds. Florida didn't call their first timeout until 27 seconds, after third down, before the kick.

They got the kickoff with 23 seconds AND 2 TIMEOUTS because of this genius move, and threw passes of 15, 18 and 9 yds, using those 2 TOs, before missing a 51 yd kick to tie.
