Observers from spring practice so far are saying that this season's D will be the best in the Kirby Smart era. Considering how good the last 2 season's have been, that should be a scary thought for opposing UGA fans.

I have been re watching some 2021 games, and I think the exponentially better offense in 2022 more than makes up for the slightly worse defense. I feel the only thing that really slowed down the offense this year was when they insisted on trying to be a smash mouth run defense, especially near goal line.

I mean except for the fact that "spring practice observations" are almost always homerisms.

2021, IMO.

Only comparing records isn't really an end all be all.

That 2021 defense was simply the best I've ever seen. THe office wasn't as good as 2022 but it was good enough when it had to be. I don't want this to turn into a gump pissfest although ti probably will anyway, btu what people either don't remember or flat out refuse to acknowledge is in the '21 SECCG we played a totally and entirely different defensive game plan than in the other 14 games. 14 games of th year we played tight man coverage and got after the QB. In the other 1 game of the year we played more zone, didn't attack the QB and instead elected to contain so that we wouldn't et scrambled on all day. And it was miserable failure. Anyoen who can watch football for even a few minutes and understand what they're watchign can watch both of those games back ot back and realize taht our defense played a polar oppost way from one game to the next. In one we got shredded. In the other they only allowed 1 TD and it was partially due to gifts from the refs at that.

2022 was the better team because of the offense.

2022 had the capability to get behind and rely on the offense to catch up and outscore their opponents if needed. 2021 had one real game where they needed to do that (the SECCG) and couldn't.

That made 2022 more complete. The could basically win any type of game they needed to. Low scoring game relying on the run? Yep. High scoring shootout? Yep. Pick apart opponents with short passes to move down the field? Yep. Throw the ball deep? Yep. Play an umbrella defense to make the opponent burn clock? yes. Press opponents and force errors? Yep. Contain mobile QB's? Yep. Rush the passer? Yes.

UGA in 2022 didn't have a single philosophy on offense or defense that opponents could scheme to defeat. Instead they could adjust their scheme to counter anything opponents did... and had the players to do it well. That made them a better overall team. In 2021 they needed the defense to perform to win.

While I don't know if UGA's defense will be the best Kirby Smart era defense or not, I'm confused why you think the idea is odd enough for that emoji.

UGA lost 4 or 5 starters (Beal was a starter but got most of his starts after Nolan Smith went down).

Last year's defense was very young for UGA. Those guys are returning with experience under their belt and some of the guys who played a lot of minutes as freshmen are now sophomore starters with experience (Bear Alexander, Mykel Williams, Marvin Jones Jr, Malaki Starkes and Daylen Everette). A lot of those guys beat out experienced UGA players who've played critical minutes in huge games (Tykee Smith, Dan Jackson, Warren Brinson, Trammell Walthour). Those guys are depth pieces now instead of starters.

2022 was more complete, as referenced by the Peach Bowl win over OSU. That was the kind of game that most people were curious to see if we could win (come from behind shootout).

The NC game defense was better because of who was missing from Bama.

Go ahead and laugh it up Bama boy. But don't worry, Bama won't have to see how good UGA is, cause they'll be watching the SEC championship game from their dorms...again.

I swear, I am going to talk some of my Bama friends into getting memberships on this forum, just so they can tell all of you other Bama fans on here to quit the whining and excuses about the injuries. They're sick of hearing so-called fans embarrass the rest of the fanbase with their pacifier-sucking whining.

UGA ran very little zone coverage in the title game after inexplicably running it throughout the SEC championship game.

The SEC championship game was a classic Kirby frick up. Completely outthought himself and then stuck to his guns with heavy pressure and blitzes and won the rematch.
