If a handful of teams had not blown it in early season OOC games that at this point in the season seem inexplicable....

*Kentucky lost to #69 Seton Hall
*Mississippi State lost to #72 Arizona State
*Alabama lost to #95 Northeastern
*Arkansas lost to #117 Georgia Tech
*Arkansas lost to #119 Western Kentucky
*Alabama lost to #135 Georgia State
*South Carolina lost to #146 Stony Brook
*South Carolina lost to #310 Wyoming

I know all leagues have teams that lost OOC games they should not have, but these are truly cringe worthy. Had each of these nine games gone the other way, the SEC would probably be considered the top conference in the country.

The Bracketologists would likely be projecting the SEC like this:
1 seed- Tennessee
2 seed- Kentucky
3-seed- LSU
5-seed- Mississippi St.
6-seed- Auburn
7-seed- Ole Miss
7-seed- Alabama
10-seed- Florida
10-seed- South Carolina
11-seed- Arkansas

We'd be talking about getting 10 teams in the Tournament rather than 7 or 8.

Just goes to show why those November games matter way more than the attention they get at the time.

We would be good instead of bad.

Eh, it was looking much worse than it currently is atm. Some were trying to say we would only get 4 or 5 teams.

We're still the SEC and outside of Tenn, LSU & Kentucky - it doesn't matter. Those three probably still won't win it tbh.

No way 10 teams would get in from the SEC regardless what happened in the non conference.

I'm not sure what that really has to do with what I said, my point was the league was in a worse projection heading into conference play. I'm not saying the league is amazing.

LSU lost to OK State as well. Although I doubt we’d be seeded much higher had we not...

I thought UGA fans agreed that basketball doesn't matter. What gives, Kyle?

Might as well ask what it would be like if water wasn’t wet or the sky wasn’t blue.

Eh, wrong poster to @

He has been posting basketball stuff all year while UGA has been struggling.

It was looking that way at the time all of these games were happening. What turned it around is this:

1. The SEC had a better than expected performance in the SEC-B12 Challenge
At one point, KenPom was projecting the SEC to go 1-9 in the Challenge. But despite three of the best teams not participating (LSU, MSU, AU), the SEC managed a 4-6 performance which helped everyone's ratings go up.

2. The Bottom of the SEC has done its part in not pulling many upsets
Vanderbilt and Georgia are the only SEC teams rated #101 or lower in the NET Rankings. Those two teams are 0-20 in SEC games not played against each other.
Taking it even further, the four bottom teams in the SEC Standings (Texas A&M, Missouri, Georgia, and Vanderbilt) are a combined 2-34 in games played against the rest of the league. The lone wins were A&M's upset at Bama and Mizzou's win over Arkansas. A loss to Vandy or Georgia right now would be a resume killer for most of the teams in the league. And I suspect that if Bama misses the Tournament, the home loss to Texas A&M might end up being the difference maker.

This has caused such a top-heavy nature in the league. Yes, you have 3 teams at the top, but you also have 4 clear teams at the bottom. The SEC is very segregated this year:

Tier 1: Tennessee, Kentucky, LSU

Tier 2: Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, South Carolina

Tier 3: Texas A&M, Missouri, Georgia, Vanderbilt

Yep and while I agreed that it didn't look good, I also knew the challenge would determine a lot

No worries. Unless you brought us a late Christmas point guard, I think they're safe.

So the correct poster to @. I'm not saying he can't have an opinion. That's a very UGA football fan/Cobb Dawg tactic. I'm really curious what gives, ie what keeps him engaged. Kinda like everyone wonders why some VOLS still post during football season. Is he just a basketball fan and an SEC fan, or is he a unicorn (genuine UGA basketball fan)? Is he stoked about landing the first 5* in program history? He seems to have a unique perspective, so what gives?

That was a bad loss, but it was decisive (meaning it likely wouldn't change).

LSU lost games to Fla State and Houston that it should have won. That would push us to 22-2 with two more marquee wins, probably on the 1-2 seed bubble right now.

Man I can’t argue with you there.

I was on my way to Michigan when we lost to Wyoming. Got off the plane and heard about it and couldn’t believe it. Spent a few days on Devils Lake getting drilled by UM fans telling me they were going to destroy us .... and then we play lights out against Michigan and were in a position to win the game.

This team is bipolar at times but the bottom line is as Siiva goes, so goes this Gamecock team .... althoughhhhhhhhhh, some of these young players are starting to catch-on and we’re going to be a dangerous team to face down the stretch.
