So we've got one game that happened in 1959, go ahead and throw that one out.
One game was the 9-6 game where Bama only lost the first time b/c they missed 4 field goals.
We've also got a game that hasn't happened yet in the graphic, so we're really talking about 2 games here.

Funny how nobody is screaming their heads off about Georgia getting a "mulligan." Wonder what the difference from 2011 is
That UGA actually in won their division as an undefeated team, played in their conference championship game, and that there’s now a playoff where they had to beat a power 5 conference champ to make the title game as opposed to sitting at home and resting up and scouting conference championship weekend.

Already woulda been a horrible loss for Georgia. This stat just adds to it.
So much in their favor.
So much in their favor.

Hmmm 1959? Jesus ... going way back to make a point.

Well, since Georgia was ranked third, they wouldn’t have gotten a rematch if it was still two teams. But it’s now 4 teams, not 2. A subtle difference, perhaps you weren’t aware

The two best teams are playing for the national championship. Just like in 2011.
It’s really that simple. As much as I was hoping Okie St. would have gotten the nod (for obvious reasons), it’s pretty amazing just how dominant 2011 LSU and Alabama were. No one else gave either one of them much of a game.

Well, this statistically relevant sample size has me complete convinced.

My understanding was that it wasn’t because Oklahoma State was more deserving. It was because a team that didn’t win its conference got a rematch against a team that beat them already. And that the conference champion had to beat the same opponent twice to win it all

The only legit gripe I’ve ever seen about the situation is that Bama got to sit and prepare while LSU had to play another game. Usually the 1st place team gets the bye. Do I think that changed the outcome. Not at all. Bama utterly dominated the NC game (21-0 doesn’t do justice to how one sided the game was). But as I said no doubt Alabama would have destroyed Okie St. The two best teams that year were clearly LSU and Alabama. Truthfully, I doubt there has ever been a season where two teams were so clearly superior to everyone else. If the goal is to get the two best teams in the Championship game, then that happened. I know I was hoping it was OSU because Saban with 5+ weeks to prepare just exacerbated the coaching mismatch.

No former assistant could beat Saban either until one did. shite happens

Billy Cannon stepped out of bounds

But that's not the case, the final Regular BCS rankings came after SEC Championship game. Both teams had the same amount of time to prepare for that game.

If people are looking at this as a "factual" result Monday then you're an idiot. Could it happen again...sure....but odds are that it will end, and Monday could very well end this, as it has ended many oddities that have occurred over time.
When Top 5 teams have met twice, the team that lost initially went on to win by 21+

Notre Dame played against DJU who we now know isn't that good (at least right now) then played Lawrence in the second game.

A 3 point loss is pretty different from a 17 point loss, I think Bryce is a tad better than Jordan Jefferson

1996 FSU/Florida
This game is probably the best example of a team bouncing back because I have no idea what happened in a game in the 50's (and its not really relevant anyway because football is so different now). FSU pounded DannyW in the first game, Florida fixed the issues in the rematch.

Kirby smart gonna snap that streak. Stetson ain’t beating bama by 21

In all the previous matchups the better team lost the first game. It is hard to beat a better team twice, hell it is hard to beat them once.
In Mondays rematch the better team won the first game.

Why does it look like 1996 wasn't 21 points?
It's by 21 or more points.
