Kansas signs coach Bill Self to a 'lifetime contract' as the Jayhawks wait for penalties for NCAA infractions
"For almost 20 years, Coach Self has embodied the spirit and tradition of the University of Kansas, leading our men's basketball program to a national championship, 15 Big 12 titles and 17 NCAA Tournament appearances," Kansas chancellor Doug Girod said. "We believe in Coach Self and we believe in the future of our program under his leadership, and we are thrilled that he will continue to be a Jayhawk for the rest of his coaching career."
Self's contract was set to expire next March, according to the school, and will be replaced with a five-year rolling agreement that adds a year at the end of each season for the rest of his career. The move comes at a moment of tumult for the KU athletic department. The school recently parted with football coach Les Miles and athletic director Jeff Long, and Self has not been immune to controversy.
The KU basketball program is dealing with an NCAA infractions case that includes a head coach responsibility charge in the fallout from a 2017 federal investigation into corruption in college basketball. But Friday's contract announcement amounts to an endorsement of Self's ability to survive the NCAA's potential punishment.

I don't know, but I'm sure you will tell us.

Props to you. I posted the Bill Self contract news to the MSB because I was too lazy to craft a SEC angle.
Instead of extending Wade's contract, LSU's AD is on the schedule to testify to a Louisiana Senate committee next week.
Fun times.

Hopefully never. Lifetime contracts are the dumbest things ever (besides high waisted jeans of course).

Is he actually going to do that?

Maybe.
He hasn't said anything yet.
The request is for *either* an in-person appearance or a written statement submitted the day prior to the hearing.
I fully expect Coach O to submit pretty much the same statement he already gave to the media.
Woodward was there (seated in the back) the day that Ms. Scott gave her testimony. Others from LSU testified later that day and some of them are being called back. I think it is very likely Woodward will be there in some capacity. He wasn't at LSU in 2017 or 2018 so he doesn't have anything to say regarding what did or didn't happen with Ms. Scott.

True.
I remember when Mike Riley was given one (he proceeded to suck after getting a sweet contract) at Oregon State and they could not have been happier than when Nebraska solved a problem for them and took that contract off their hands.
I can see why you'd give someone like Saban a lifetime contract. But for the vast majority of coaches, it is a terrible idea. But it's a market like most everything else.

For as much shite as we got for giving Calipari his lifetime contract, this shite is hilarious given the NCAA issues they’re facing.

This.
I'm not familiar with the allegations in their NOA, but they must be awful confident that keeping Self around is not going to get them in deeper doo doo with the NCAA.
Then again, nobody has a clue when the IARP is going to make any decisions on anything.

Minnesota State gave Hayden Fox a lifetime contract and that a-hole still bailed on them to take the Orlando Breakers job.

This is true. 10 year contracts are the way to go if you’re getting a proven elite coach, but any longer than that is just silly.

Can you let us know who our new baseball coach is? TIA

No tweets or stories from Dickie V, Dan Wolken or Pat Forde on this? Certainly they would have a problem with Kansas giving a lifetime contract to a coach when they just received an NOA for 5 level 1 violations.
