In 2019 he won a championship with Joe Brady and Dave Aranda as coordinators.

After Aranda left for Baylor, reports started to come out that he was not a fan of Aranda’s 3-4 defense because it didn’t lead to enough sacks. So he went out and got Bo Pelini to run a 4-3. Before the season, he said “Our defense is so much better than any point in the season last year.”

Obviously, that didn’t work out. So guess what? Now his coordinators are:

Jake Peetz who coached under Joe Brady

Daronte Jones who coached under Dave Aranda

It just seems strange to me that he is just hiring these guys hoping they will be just like their bosses.

It honestly seems like O knows that he caught lightning in a bottle in 2019 and no longer trusts himself to choose the right coordinators, so he’s just trying to pick guys who have any connection to the 2019 coordinators.

He's a used car salesman. A good salesman. Everything makes sense when you look at him that way.

Hard to make a hire when there’s a chance you might get fired mid season

It actually reminds me of what people do with Bama. Schools hire ANYONE on that coaching staff in the hopes that they can replicate a fraction of Saban’s success. It rarely works.

Ed has no idea what he’s doing. He just hopes to pick people who do.

What was Marcus Freeman’s tie to Aranda?

Weak troll attempt. Kirby was DC for 8 years and was a candidate for almost every Head coach position for a 3 year span. He would’ve been hired even if he wasn’t under Saban.

I’m talking about teams hiring a quality control who spend a year under Saban as an OC

to be fair that’s what ADs and GMs around the country have been doing with Saban and Bellichik for years and years now.

You mean like how Georgia hired Saban's strength and conditioning coach to coach their special teams?

Unless you heap praise on LSU...you hardly get any meaningful discussion with LSU posters. Questioning Coach O coordinators choices is fair game, but they want everything to start with 2019 but won't look at the rest of O coaching career or previous coordinators hires at other schools.

This is a rhetorical question, right?

Lets evaluate his hires:

1) Linehan....now an NFL OC with Urban
2) Brady.....now an NFL OC in Carolina and getting interviewed for head NFL head coach gigs
3) Canada....now an NFL OC with Pittsburgh

4) Pelini....bomb

hmmmmmmmmmm....so 75% of his hires at the coordinator level are respected NFL coordinators and 1 of his former coordinators is a Big 12 head coach.
