every year there are 2 or 3 teams head and shoulders above the rest, and the 4th team might deserve to be there, but no one gives them a chance - like TCU this year.

But, there are always some teams 5th, 6th, top 10 that could actually make a run. and there are always at least 2 or 3 of these teams, imo. Like Tennessee and Alabama this year. SoCal could've gotten into that except they lost their qb for the postseason.

Makes for a much more exciting season when near the end you will have 15-20 fanbases and teams still trying to make the playoffs

yeah, like you said there are always a handful of teams that are hitting their stride at the end of the season that may have had 2 or 3 early losses. Think of Texas A&M in 2012 or Oklahoma in 2016.

If after 13 weeks you're only ranked 10th, you've very clearly lost your chance to deserve a title shot.

like I said, Texas A&M in 2012 is a great example of a team that was ranked 10 in week 13 and could have definitely made a run in an expanded playoff.

Every other sport, including all other levels of CFB, allow more teams into the playoffs as a percentage than D-1 CFB...I never hear much complaining about their playoff system

how so? Why should a team that's undefeated and a team that has 3 or potentailly even 4 (in a 12 team playoff it may happen) losses both have the same chance to win a national title in a winner take all playoff?

If you lose 3 games in a 12 game season, I'm sorry but frick off. You've lost your chance.

Surely no basketball teams have ever won march madness outside the top 10?

perhaps they shouldn't have finished 3rd in their division?

Idk, ask every other sport/league playoff system. FBS college football is the exception. By far the league with the smallest % of participants earning the opportunity to compete in the postseason, BY FAR. And by postseason I don’t mean meaningless bowl games, I mean playoffs.

Yes, the NFL playoffs are done for the sole purpose of entertainment and creating more revenue/ticket sales for the sport, not to determine who actually should be the champion of the league, of which it just flat out doesn't give a shite.

Hell, the NFL isn't even a sport.

Not to mention the NFL is only 32 teams on a 16 game schedule. They play the teams in their own division multiple times. The teams are generally more equal because they have rules in place to try and spread the talent out for competitive/product reasons.

It's no where near the same thing. I don't even watch the NFL because it's a fricking joke.

The only advantage that I can see is that it gives purpose to the conference championship games.
Hell, teams like Alabama will consider the playoffs as just a part of their regular schedule.

The NFL is not a sport. They are classified the same way the WWE is classified - sports entertainment. If they classified as just a sport, they wouldn't be able to rig things.

It's a business.
