What were your thoughts when Ark and SCar joined the SEC?

Since I'm too young remember. Were fans happy with the additions, indifferent or disappointed?

Arkansas is a small state, but was arguably a top 10 FB program from about 1960-1989. Seems like they limped into the SEC though and they lost to the Citadel around that time. They were on a great run in bball though and would have a good mini-rivalry with UK.

SCar, some good FB teams in the 80s, overall doesn't look like they had much history overall though. Were they really good in baseball back then too?

I think most fans were on board with it. Most importantly, it brought the conference to 12 teams which allowed a championship game.

I'm still not on board with Mizzou. They just don't fit as an SEC school. What have they brought to the table (other than a TV market)? Is there a way to make a trade for another school?

UGA was already playing SCAR regularly so I remember my dad being kind of indifferent about it.

The addition of Arky and SCAR really only impacted UGA's rivalry with Clemson. Still played in Jacksonville, DSOR, and the Nerds.

It led to the SEC CG, which I remember watching and thinking was the coolest thing ever - even if it was a Lesion Field - since only the SEC had it.

I don't remember even thinking about Arkansas at all until 40 Minutes of Hell. SCAR has obviously been successful in baseball.

Still waiting on the Ags and Mizzou to do something noteworthy...

It was my 1st year at Auburn and really my first foray into SEC football (aside from watching UF some) so I really never knew any better.

At the time, I thought they were both very good additions to the conference. I still hold that view.

We played for a national title in the 1970's, went through some bad years and then found success again from the late 1990's to the mid 2010's.

Two southern states we didn't have a foot hold in. It was good. Arkansas had some history in football at least.

Arkansas has dominated in track and field too, not a revenue sport obviously, but the level of success they've had there is mind-blowing

I was a student at Bama when it happened, and I remember everyone was pretty excited about Arkansas, but kinda meh on South Carolina.

SC was a natural fit.Big state school with a large fan base and also fit geographically.Arkansas
had a solid tradition and seemed to be good fit at the time... didn't really think about their basketball impact when they joined.

I was young in 92 and didn’t really know of them being new to theSEC and recently added, I just kinda grew up with them being there if that makes sense.
My thoughts have always been that Arkansas should be way better then they are at football. They are the premier school in the state and shouldn’t compete for any kid within its borders and because of its proximity to Dallas, Tulsa, Kansas City, Memphis, Shreveport it should be able to pull a few kids from there as well. It should be like a mini Oklahoma, at least on paper. Petrino has them on the right track but then Bert shat the bed.
South Carolina football wise will be lucky to win 8 games a year and that says a lot being in the east. It will be hard for them to play with Dabo and Clemson dominating the state. But no excuses, Auburn puts together a good team every 5 years and beats bama enough to keep them mad.

I never would have thought that after 18 years that South Carolina would be the one with the better conference record.

From 1960-1989, Arkansas had the 10th best winning pct in I-A. SEC was a big step up from the SWC, but I'm not sure that explains all of it LINK

From about 1998-2011 we were pretty good all things considered. Won 8-9 games most of those years, won the SEC West twice and won 10 or more games in 2006, 2010 and 2011. Crazy now to think of us winning double digit games 3/6 years

Outside of that timeframe we've struggled. Especially recently. We'd never even finished last in the West until Bielema got here and now we've done it about 3 more times since.

Yet Arkansas still leads the series. South Carolina has not beaten a razorback team with a winning record. The 2010 team that beat Alabama at home lost to Arkansas at home by double digits. The same happened the next year. They started taking advantage when smile and Bert arrived.

I was just pumped to get a conference championship game.

And let’s not act like these two haven’t won a division.

It was a good addition.

Arkansas was the first team not named Alabama or Florida to make it to the SEC championship game.

Also, 40 Minutes of Hell was in effect the day we entered the SEC.

Still waiting on y'all to do it.
