Nah, if LSU can win with Les Miles and Ed Orgeron, then they can win with anyone.
Meanwhile, Bama hasn't functioned so well in the modern era without a GOAT head coach at the helm.

Alabama won a SEC title with Mike fricking DuBose as head coach. We'll be ok.

UGA? They are lucky if they are as good as Arkansas when Saban leaves. Somewhere between MSU and Arkansas is what they have to look forward to.

Then why haven't you done it the vast majority of your program's existence?

And a national title with Gene Stallings who, while well-regarded now, was a perennial loser when he took over Alabama in 1990. He was 27-45-1 as a collegiate head coach and 23-34-1 as an NFL head coach. At Alabama, he finished his tenure with a 70-16-1 record.

It took Nick Saban to unlock LSU's potential as an elite program

Keep hiring like you have been and see how much longer the residue from Saban lasts.

The "residue" from Saban is long gone, its been almost 20 years since he was here.
LSU will remain an elite program as long as the administration is willing to commit to winning in terms of facilities, salaries, etc.

Unlike Georgia, BAMA has won at least 1 championship in every era except the 80’s.

The only way we become like Georgia is if we make the mistake of hiring Kirby Smart

I think, in large part, that level of investment into the program IS a major piece of the Saban "residue" that changed the direction of the program.
Saban made LSU commit to building a football ops building, student-athlete academic center, and improved living conditions for the players BEFORE committing to the job. Then, he assembled an all star cast of coaches that won games. And, he kept a focus on facility improvement.
To the point of
quote:, I think there is some truth there. Given the optics of the "sports trumps ethical decision making" narrative that is building against LSU and significant funds being tied up paying fired coaches and underperforming ones (save one awesome year for the ages), it could take a step back in terms of continued investment in the infrastructure that sets the conditions to develop/sustain elite teams
Keep hiring like you have been and see how much longer the residue from Saban lasts.

Ignoring the troll aspect, it is an interesting question. Tuscaloosa has really built up around the University now more than ever. The economic hit to the city should the money dry up would be devastating. The phrase "too big to fail" comes to mind (especially in light of the recent additions to the stadium and COVID). That being said, college football is in its death throes so it really is irrelevant. Alabama will go out on top. What happens after is inevitable for every major program out there, not just Bama.

Meh. Thank God we won't become the next LSU.
I mean, seriously...is there a more fricked up athletic department in the conference?
