What is the problem with LSU’s defense?

This isn’t a flame, because Bama’s D is worse.
However, Bama is playing freshmen and former walk-ons due to injuries and early draft departures...so we shouldn’t expect much.
Why is LSU’s defense so much worse than normal?

It’s going to cost them a game this year but they won’t admit it.

It isn't as bad as people think. 1st half D has been legit.
The problem is when we get up 3 or so scores at half. They legitimately take a quarter or 2 off after that for some fricking reason.

Short answer? They suck. LSU has gone all in on becoming a BDF team

Well you see, when we have a large lead we take our starters out so our backups get playing time. This is what I'm going to choose to believe anyways.

I really don't know and was asking myself those same questions. Think about this, with 8:00 minutes left in the half we led 28-zip and Ole Miss couldn't do shite. They then forgot how to tackle and play gap control. Same shite against Bama. Balled out in the first half then shite the bed in the second half. They mad necessary stops just like last night, but how can they be so inconsistent is beyond me. I don't think it's a talent thing because they make plays.

Injuries, youth and lots a of zone coverage with players built to play a more attacking less cerebral defense.
Its like Aranda still thinks he has devin white out here lining it all up. Every time he puts this defense on a more aggressive posture, they look good. When they should be in soft zone, I.e. last TD against Bama, they are too aggressive.

They play fantastic the first half of games then come out after halftime and suck. I don't get it but it's all good because of the offense we have.

What's there not to admit? There are only a thousand posts from us about our D being really bad! The only hope is that we can tighten it at some point as there's still a lot of talent!

Yesterday was by far their worse performance. Alabama and Texas are the other teams that have really torched them. At least in those games you would see LSU defenders in decent position and the other players made great plays. Ole Miss deserves credit but LSU looked Confused and out of position a lot of times.
It is concerning.

against who? No team can shut down this offense

Same thing that happens to every spread, HUNH offense. The sense gets gassed and eventually behaviorally conditions the defense to play weak to save themselves.

Honest answer, LSU has major depth problems on the defense. Just watch the games.
LSU rotates the same 4 defensive linemen, the same 5 linebackers, the same 4 corner backs and only plays 3 safeties.

Meh, they play well against ranked teams and not so well when their offense is scoring at will...

I think it's a depth and health issue. It appears that many of the starters have been playing banged up all year. And depth behind them is either not SEC talent or freshmen. About the same problem Alabama is having.
