Hell, at least we have largely moved on. They are still doing a “Miss Havisham” thing so bad that new recruits with no knowledge of the history are calling out their obsession.

The best "tradition" is the story of why they have all male cheerleaders.
A train load of girls from North Texas University got so bored at a game in CS they were all about to leave and get back on the train. The cadets made some freshman grab some coveralls and basically run around being silly. People laughed and pointed and the rest is history.
The women still left.

You couldn’t ask Texas the same thing because there is no obsessive cult following based off the fact that we couldn’t get into our rival’s school. That’s the reality of an Aggie student. The reality for longhorn students is “thank god those weirdos are stuck in FarmVille and weren’t granted admission to our school.”
Name one recruit that has “called out obsession”. If anything, isn’t A&M notorious for having recruiting reporters do perverse things like follow recruits into bathrooms?
