They are pretty much even, IMO.

Were I a college coach, I'd pick A&M.

They're like LSU was before hiring a competent coach. No idea why they haven't won big yet.
Because we haven't hired a competent coach, yet.

250 miles?EVERYBODY has a "ton of talent" within that radius except maybe Mizzou,MSU and Arky
Now if you said 100 miles you might have point.

Very few posters on this board can possibly appreciate the transformation of A&M from a small, all male military and farming school into the institution it is today. We played at LSU virtually every game into the 70s, because we weren't big enough to warrant a home-and-home.
But they can all appreciate that none of that matters a whit.
The co-ed enrollment at A&M in 1980 was 33K.
That's more than OU currently and a whole frickload more than TCU has ever had.
It was a big arse school in 1980 and its a big arse school today. It's had more than 50 years post winning WWII to establish its football primacy in the southwest.

Tennessee is in a beautiful location and the river-accessible stadium is so cool.
There's nothing special about the A&M campus except for the occasional 110°F+ heat there in August.

If scenery made a difference, Utah and Colorado would be powerhouses.

Both are good jobs.
A&M probably has a better recruiting base.

Tennessee and its not really close.
With A&M, you have a HUGE rival with in state Texas that will always be a giant or a sleeping giant that can attract a big name coach at any moment. That is a difficult uphill battle with in state recruiting.
At Tennessee, you play in the friggin SEC East. You have no real competition for a national title other than Florida and they are not really competition with shark humper as coach. The rest of the east is focused on beating other SEC teams and winning streaks, etc.

Without question.

A&M is a cow college. It is little brother. The Auburn of Texas. They have very little winning tradition. Very 'cultish' also.
Tennessee while going through a bad spell the last decade or so has a winning tradition and is the premier football school in the state.
Easy decision for me.

today's recruits don't care about history/tradition, especially when it happened before they were born.

We did pretty well in the 1980s.
