Asking for a friend... what kind of coach goes for two: first time after the opening score in game, and then again later?.. and fails both times with the missing two points setting up the possibility of costing his team the game?

It seems a bit like a high school team without a kicker to me, but maybe it is the new thing in NCAA CFB.

The same one that beat Bama's arse last year for their only defeat.

Don't question our methods.

When it works...it works.

Coach Kelly at Pulaski academy.

Also onside kick and no punts

Very odd timing for this at 11:30 on a Monday night. Must suck to have gotten your arse beaten by a coach like that.

Also no field goal attempts at Pulaski? TD or bust?

It should have been converted. Unfortunately our backup QB likes to be the hero.

We were down five, explain why you wouldn’t go for it here.

We didn’t need a 2 point conversion for 26-14

Well, if your chicken shite high school level coach had not played little league going for two after the opening score of the game (for God’s sake explain .... WTF, why do this?), there would have been no reason to go for 2 late in the game.

In 1968, Florida was down 20-0 to Missouri in Sugar bowl. Spurrier threw a TD and Coach Ray Graves went for 2 for no good reason. Spurrier then scored twice more, every time Florida went for 2 and failed losing game 18-20... all because Graves made a stupid call after the first TD. Malzahns call in this game was equally insane... though it didn’t cost the game. All it did was expose his little league mindset.

But maybe that is the new thing at ag schools. Carry on lads. We will watch for Shirley birds, triple reverses, double passes, a fumbleruski or two, maybe the old Statue of Liberty play. Seems these will fit in well with Auburn’s game planning.

Regardless, he's right about the logic of going for two when you're down 5 late in the game. Saban likely would have done the same. It's a fairly straightforward coaching principle in that case.

I will concede that doing it early probably meant Gus was a bit too high-strung about the game. If you're not doing it because you think you can move the ball at will against that opponent -- and I doubt Gus thought that -- it's generally something you do when you feel like you have to take real chances in order to be able to win.

I've always wanted a bigger job to give Kelley a chance just to see how he'd do.
