What exactly is Ed O doing with his offense?

First let me state this is not an insult. Love LSU, love the people, love the culture, and wish the best for you except for one game this fall. That said, I think your AD hurt the program by hiring O, and it may take you years to recover. Hope not, but I’m not sold on your administration’s ability to right the ship. All that aside, f anyone cAn answer this I would appreciate it. What exactly is O trying to accomplish on offense. What identity or what goal is he hoping for, because in all honesty there’s a bunch of us out here on the outside looking in that are befuddled by it.

Spread offense with 3 wide as base set out of shotgun
We do not have any elite backs and the best one we have is best suited to a shotgun style attack and can get the ball out in space (Clyde Edwards-Helaire). Our strength will be the receivers so we want to get to them as much as possible.
We still will run some I formation (We have fullbacks), but a whole bunch less of it.
If we ran the same usual under center 2 WR type of offense this year we would win 4 or 5 games at best

I agree on the administration part but it’s not hard to see what he’s trying to do on offense
Thanks for your concern

Does your QB fit in well with the system or is it a work in progress?

We dont know who that is yet, but all 3 are spread QBs from high school, so they are more comfortable out of shotgun than under center from that perspective. 2 of them are very mobile (Narcisse, McMillian) and we are running RPOs with all 3 (Brennan included).
Basically we're just trying to finally bring our offense into the 21st century, which I'm sully fine with.
Generally speaking most would say this is the pecking order right now:
1. Brennan
2. McMillian
3. Narcisse
Personally I see it at Brennan starting, McMillian the do it all insurance policy and Narcisse the change of pace more running oriented QB.

All three were less than stellar (right on par w/ LSU QBs) in the spring game and from the stats I’ve seen from practice the D is dominating. Not sure if that’s an indictment of our QB play or the D is that good. I’m fairly certain teams like UGA/Auburn/Bama with similar athletes wont struggle with our attack at all.

The problem is that even Orgeron hasn't been sure what he wants. He also seems to be a coach who tells people what they want to hear, which adds to the perception (reality?) that he doesn't know what he's doing.
Since he got the full-time gig, he has said different things about what he wants to run in the near 18 months since. They don't have the same type of RBs LSU used to have so they may pass it more. They're counting on the new WRs coach coaching up the receivers, which was one of LSU's weakest spots last year but may be a strength this year.
I'm just not sold on any of the quarterbacks, especially since Brennan and Narcisse were both original Miles recruits that Orgeron signed in his first recruiting class once Miles was fired. And McMillan is a junior who has, shall we say, limited physical ability. I have zero confidence in Miles' quarterback evaluation skills.
But is LSU's defense dominating only because the offense sucks? I have my concerns about LSU's secondary, which is thin on scholarship players (but I thought Orgeron was a stellar recruiter).
And, yes, the LSU football program/athletic department only has a chance to get better once the president and athletic director are employed elsewhere.

I liked what I saw from the offense scheme wise in the spring game. The quick, high percentage throws are something that fans have been screaming for for a while. Saw lots of crossing routes which is something we haven't seen since Odell and Jarvis were here. It wasn't executed to perfection but the foundation is there for a good offense.

Does Narcisse get the job as qb?
I think he is going to be something special.
Edit, sorry I saw missed your response where you already answered this.
I am rooting for Narcisse personally. I think he will be really amazing, and still hate we could not get him.

Yeah , never understood why Miles never placed an emphasis on having a stellar QB, just like Richt never placed an emphasis on having a stellar OL or Special Teams. To compete with the best, you must compete in EVRY aspect.

All the things. We’re going to be a run-first, pass heavy, power-I, spread team.

And TE's. Please let teams sleep on us because our defense alone will be pushing teams dicks in! This will be the best front 7 and deepest that an LSU team has fielded in quite a while. Probably on par or better than 11'.

He has a chance but apparently his issue is his accuracy. Id like to see him win the job because of his athleticism. He can do things with his feet that Brennan just can't do.

I hate everything about zerO. But this is the first spring under the new offense. You can’t really ask this dumb arse question without watching them first in a real game.

Honestly, he still has a long way to go. I dont see any way he starts at QB this year unless he has a great summer and fall. He is pretty clearly #3 right now IMO. Looks like he still needs time to develop after missing his last 2 years of high school ball due to injury.
I do think he will play this year in a change of pace role. Dude looks great (about 6'3 230ish) and could easily make some defenders have a tough time tackling him in the run game.

Well this is certainly a unique perspective.

When he was still being recruited, I was really hopeful about what he could have done in the AU offense at the time.
Hopefully, his skill set will be utilized in packages, at the least. And he can progress nicely during the year.
I still hate that injury during high school slowed his progress.

Yep, it sucks. He was on pace to likely be the greatest ever LA high school QB. His sophmore season was extremely good.

The problem last year wasn't that our front 7 was lacking. The problem was we had zero depth and our best player Rashard Lawrence got injured in the BYU game(1st game of the year). Didn't play against State and Troy and very sparingly until towards the end of the season.
So yeah, my prediction will be spot on. Bookmark it again
