What does the NCAA want from Auburn basketball?

From what I understand, Chuck Person was busted as a part of a sting for paying Purifoy and Wiley to sign with a certain agency when they went pro. Auburn then self-imposed penalties including long suspensions for the players in question and recruiting restrictions.
If the NCAA continues to go after them and they don't allege any other wrongdoings other than what we already know about Person, then it only proves (once again) that cooperation and self-policing is futile, and the only way to deal with the NCAA is to fight them.

Anyone who self-reports to the NCAA (Mizzou) or cooperates with the NCAA (Ole Miss) are suckers.

True. Both players were ineligible for a long time. The thing that really disappointed me was Wiley's parents. They both played basketball for Auburn and knew what they were doing was dead wrong.

Yeah, if this is all simply about directing players to certain agents who are already signed and playing for a program, the NCAA is also missing the point about what actually bothers most fans: players being paid to sign with one program instead of another.

I don't see anything major coming from it. The NCAA must show that they made an effort in investigating it.......because of how public the Person thing was.

Pearl is already on thin ice after his show clause

The NCAA instructed Auburn to sit two players for a full season, have the player or parents repay the $$, restricted recruiting so severely that Auburn missed an entire signing class and they had to fire 3 coaches from the staff. That seems major and Auburn agreed to every bit of it. The self-imposed sanctions were major.

Is he though?

Pearl is still the HC. He wasn't busted for buying recruits or even making illegal offers to recruits. He was busted for lying about a b-b-que.
Unless you have lived under a rock the last decade, you would know Auburn's head of compliance is second to none. Pearl would have already been gone if he was involved in any way. Like the FBI said after arresting Person......"Auburn was the victim here".

From what I understand, Auburn reported and took punishment. The NCAA has to investigate and report their findings. We'll find out if they found anything other than what they already knew about.

Yes, Auburn has already paid a significant price. That is exactly what I was saying.
as far as the NOA goes......"I don't see anything major coming from it".

If this were a fair world Pearl would still be at Tennessee. A lot of coaches doing things much worse than a silly bar-b-q.
For the record: I'm glad he's at Auburn.

They’ve asked Pearl to come in and talk about and he refused and they said “ok” and nothing has changed.

bull fricking shite. Auburn asked him to come in and talk. Pearl had talked to the FBI during a Federal investigation. It would have been against Federal law to discuss it with anybody else while the investigation was ongoing. When the FEDS told Pearl he was cleared to talk about it, he talked to Auburn.

I'm not really sure the NCAA really wants anything further from Auburn basketball.
Unlike a a lot of NCAA sagas (Cam Newton, for example) the issues seemed pretty discrete from the outset and it never appeared likely there would be new facts/evidence. I feel like even most foes of Auburn who read about the Person stuff come away from it convinced the program itself had no involvement (because the whole thing doesn't really make sense otherwise).
