What does baseball have against logos?

Why do several college baseball teams trade in their great iconic logo for a boring letter logo?

Texas has a T that looks like Tennessee rather than their longhorn.

Clemson uses a boring C instead of the paw.

Arkansas with a bad looking A instead of the razorback.

South Carolina with the SC instead of the Gamecock

Louisville scripted L rather than the Cardinal

and Im sure there are several more. What gives?

Cause that’s how the pros do it and how all levels of baseball pretty much do it.

Seems like you recognize the team without the logo just fine....

Baseball is a quirky sport.

1. Coaches/Managers wear uniforms.
2. The old school lettering on hats. Auburn, A&M and Georgia are really the only SEC team that uses their primary logo on their hat.
3. If you started playing professional baseball today and had a career - Failing 60% of the time would make you the greatest player in history.

Its also the only team sport where its always about individual performance. You can't hide - your time in the batters box will come, no matter how good the rest of your team is.

FWIW, we used an SC logo on our football helmets before the rooster.

Google “Baseball purist”.

Like no other sport, baseball has the best history, loves it’s roots & has resisted change.

Logos are for the most part a modern creation in sports. I don’t believe in “holding onto” the past, but I believe in embracing the past if it’s historical, significant or elite.

Same opinion on CFB uniforms, handful of teams still have their basic uni’s & they are all blue bloods.

If you don’t relish the option of traditional uni’s, you most likely have never been a fan of a historically great team or were born after 1985.

Because baseball hats are smaller than football helmets and one couldn't possibly make out the UA razorback logo or the USC rooster logo on a baseball hat from the stands.

I personally wish we would use our interlocking MS logo in all sports. It looks way better that way, IMO.

Add Vandy to that list. To that point, all of these teams have simple primary logos. All of them are essentially just the specific school's letter(s).

I like it how it distinguishes baseball from other sports.

In the MLB, only the Blue Jays, Indians, and Orioles have cap logos without letters. Obviously, the Indians block C is going to completely take over, and the Orioles do have a cursive O logo. But that’s 3 out of 30 teams. I also think that makes the Spring Training caps that much more special, is that they offer a glimpse into the opposite at times.

In football, the Bears, Chiefs, 49ers, Giants, Jets, Packers, and Titans really utilize letters, and you can argue that the Titans, Jets, and Chiefs use lettering as only a smaller part of the logo.

Now picture trying to put some of those football logos on a baseball cap for MLB teams. Bills? Bucs? Chargers? Eagles? It just wouldn’t look...normal.

Baseball is a dying sport. It can only appeal to nostalgia at this point.

I agree. A schools logo is good enough for everything but baseball. They, for whatever reason, need their own.

Because the mascot logos are too big for the front of a baseball cap and look SWAC trashy

Oregon State and TCU are trashy. At least interlock the damn letters and try to make it look like a baseball cap.

Actually pro football is dying and soccer is growing frighteningly fast in the generation not even out of high school right now.
