What culture will change at Texas A@M?

I just wonder if aggie fans are worried some that part of the problem at Aggie land was the thug cluture allowed by Sumlin. Jimbo had that same thing with Jamis Winston and others. Why will it be different with the results for your team now that Jimbo is there?

They will be a tougher team than in the past. I don’t think they will quit like previous years. Jumbo is a good head coach and a good offensive mind.

I think Jimbo is a better coach than Sumlin. But he let Florida State rot because he let the thug behavior keep happening. Texas is already rotten from Sunlin. How they gonna change that?

Then my last year (2015), the staff really lost control of the team. Like I said, I love Coach Sumlin, but we had all of these talented guys who would miss workouts and nothing would happen to them, where other other guys would miss and they’d be punished. As a senior looking down at these younger guys who were highly recruited come in, they really thought they could do whatever they want.
I don’t want to say names, but for instance we had this big time player who just didn’t show up to anything. Not meetings, not workouts, anything, and he got away with it. But if I were to miss, I’d be punished and would end up on the stairmaster for 45 minutes. That kind of thing was happening pretty often at certain points and a lot of the older guys were starting to get upset with it. At that point, the staff was trying to put it all on us and say that the upperclassmen needed to be the ones to hold those guys accountable, but at that point we felt like we did what we could, and that it was their turn to step in. After that was when the wheels started falling off a little bit and it got bad.

Jimbo doesn't run a thug program like Sumlin with DJs during practices, graffiti barbershops and "SWAG". Jimbo runs a hard nosed, traditional program and only allows his players to rape and pillage if they are Heisman contenders.

The only culture that’s changing is the party, swag, country club to tough, hard hitting, physical, business like approach.
I don’t think there is much difference for tolerance across college football. Good players get more leeway. Bad players don’t.

Discipline, mental/physical toughness, effort, recruiting and stacking top 5 classes (all of which were lacking under previous lazy coach). In short, winning.

We knew there was dysfunction but that is just dereliction of duty by Sumlin.

Honestly, the problem is we’re not thuggish enough. Hopefully Jimbo turns Kool Kevin’s millennial DJ kids into hardened killers.

They will be a tougher team. Jimbo is a very bright offensive mind...BUT he has never adjusted even one aspect of his offense since 1993. I think his offense is much more suitable for the pro game as us his philosophy. Everywhere he has been started out with a bang and ended with a fizzle because his refusasl to adjust his schemes. His OLs get abused in the end.

Most LSU fans were happy to try something new after he left in 2006. He had some really good offenses but they weren’t consistent.

Forget it, RainKing. It's Florida.
Seriously, Miami, UF, and FSU have always been rotten with thug culture. The odds favor it being a nation's wang issue as much as it is a coaching one.

undisciplined under Sumlin, but not thuggish.

The two main issues I saw with Jimbo at FSU were the play/development of the offensive line and his DC (Kelly I think) sucked badly a lot. QB play was always very strong, outside the last season but the other QB went down. I don't ever recall outside the last season the offense ever being an issue. They always moved the ball and put up points but the defense was poorly run and organized under Kelly.
I think Elko was a very good hire, who should do well. I think Jimbo should be able to field some very good offenses and have very strong QB play like he usually does.
I think more than anything, Jimbo's biggest obstacle is stripping down and reestablishing a new culture of accountability and toughness. something that lacked significantly with Sumlin. If he can do that there is a good chance for him to be successful but those things definitely need to be addressed.
Time will tell though, the hires so far are decent and they are recruiting well, we will see what transpires very soon though. It will be interesting to see how the offense operates year one moving from a spread to more pro style/multiple.

I think defensive recruiting will also be an issue in the state of Texas. With all of Texas running the spread, it’s very hard to find SEC athletes on the defensive side of the ball.
