I don't watch MLB/NHL/MLS at all.
Couldn't care any less about the Saints. I follow how former LSU players are doing but I don't actively root for one team.
I'm in Memphis so I cheer for the Grizzlies, but I like seeing LeBron and Ben win.

I graduated grad school in 2008 and I truly cannot even fathom that situation. It's unreal how much has changed in a decade.
I know people praise out of state students because they bring in money, but I personally dont like seeing a traditional state university like Bama becoming an out of state institution
Oh well, football gifs incoming instead of discussion I am sure

I like having a large chunk of out of state students. I think it's helped move the campus forward on a number of things.
I don't like having the undergraduate enrollment be 60% OOS students. That's way over the top.

True from a general standpoint with State alumni but obviously on a personal level we all have different teams
Me personally
NFL: no favorite team today. Growing up I was a Baltimore Colts fan. When they moved in 1984, I no longer (Indianapolis Colts is criminal IMO) had a favorite team. I follow players now, so I liked Brett when he was at GB, McNair at HOU/TN, Brees w/the Saints, Dak w/Cowboys etc.
NBA: again growing up : Baltimore/Washington Bullets (no longer care about the NBA), and then especially when they became politically correct and changed their nickname to the Wizards.
MLB: Baltimore Orioles. Here again when they had all the strikes back in the 80’s and 90’s and the WS got cancelled in 1994, I completely lost interest in MLB. I can’t remember the last game I watched on TV. I have been to a couple of Braves games over the years but the last one was over 10 years ago.

It should always be a 70% + in state enrollment IMHO
It triggers me if I walk on the University of Alabama's campus, I will encounter more people from outside Alabama.

It’s still easier to get in and get scholarships if you’re in state, so I wouldn’t go that far. It’s not like Vanderbilt who actively discriminates against in state students at least according to a friend who works in admissions up there.
It’s improved the general quality of student which is good. It’s also provided a lot of networking opportunities that many other schools probably don’t have.
On the downside I think it’s taken away some of the school’s togetherness and respect for the institution from the general student body.
It also hurts our rankings in like USNews and stuff because out of state people are more likely to drop out, and those rankings are largely based on retention. Not that those rankings should matter, but most people don’t understand how they work.

For instance, LSU folks who live in Louisiana I assume would be
- NFL : Saints/Cowboys
- NBA : Pelicans/don't care
- MLB : Astros?
- NHL : N/A
- MLS : N/A
NFL: Saints
NBA: Don't care, wish the Pelicans would move
MLB: Astros
NHL/MLS/All Other Sports: Don't care

The concept that the Texans have an actual fanbase still surprises me. I assumed it was mostly kids under 20 and hispanics that moved in and weren't already on the Cowboys bandwagon.
A lot of old Oilers fans that never did like the Cowboys.

St. Louis Cardinals fandom goes way back for the entire state. The radio broadcasts from St. Louis games were the only MLB broadcasts that Arkansas got, and the Little Rock AA ballclub was the Cardinals affiliate for decades.

This is a constant debate.
Pro out of state will say:
1) Even if they do leave, the money they spent while here and if they come visit greatly benefits the community.
2) In state students will leave also if that’s where the best opportunity is.
3) It’s not the university’s fault there aren’t enough good jobs in the state and how will we ever attract good jobs if we don’t have an attractive work force to employ from?
Against will say
1) Scholarship funds to these students are a waste of money because they’ll just leave the state after graduation.
2) There are already plenty of good jobs coming to Huntsville, yet many of our grads are passing those up to go to New York.
3) Even if they stay, they’re just taking a job away from someone from the state.

I don’t have any stats on what percentage of our of state students stay in Alabama, but based off my friends, I would guess it’s pretty low.
