We didn't lose that memphis game, everybody on planet earth knows we got the shite robbed out of us.. if you haven't watched the pass interference or fair catch calls, you haven't lived.....

What he does just isn't sustainable in this league. You can't just throw the ball 60+ times a game and expect to take a step beyond averaging 7-8 wins a season like he's done his entire career in three different major conferences. he is who he is IMO at this point in his career, but I just don't see them doing anything significant under Leach without having a more balanced offensive approach.

I think his offense can work but the problem is the standard for his QB must be higher than what is normally needed.

When your short passes substitute for run plays, you really need an accurate QB to make sure he hits on those designed plays.

Blame the refs for losing a regular season game to a 6-6 AAC team.

Y'all definitely got hosed, but why was Memphis even in that game to begin with?

State was up 17-7 at the half, and Memphis outscored State 24-12 in the second half to win 31-29 (including 17 points in the fourth quarter).

I'm just thinking back to his mentor at Kenucky, Hal Mumme. He coached under Mumme from their time at Iowa Wesleyan, Valdosta St, and Kentucky. While at Kentucky, he had Tim Couch for two years. Couch, as we all know was an All-American and the #1 overall draft pick after the 1998 season. Put up huge numbers. However, despite having an elite QB, they still produced 5-6 and 7-5 seasons. And that was back when no one was spreading the ball around the field like that and most teams were playing ground and pound football. Everyone has wide open offenses now, but the successful teams have some semblance of balance. I've been saying this about Leach for years. Maybe he'll prove me wrong, but I just don't see it. I think he'll continue to average 6-8 wins a year, maybe with an outlier every 5+ years, which isn't bad but I've just never been sold on Leach as being an elite coach to take a program to be consistently competitive with the best. I mean maybe if he starts putting together top 10 classes, but he's never been known as a great recruiter. Because I also don't think it's likely to expect his coaching philosophy to overcome the fact that the vast majority of his players are 3 stars and lower, especially in this league.

That would be enough for State fans.

Dude this shite happens every year. We’re used to it, it no longer bothers us. The media yearly picks us to finish last in the west too, but that has happened once in the last 13 years. We’ll continue to outperform what the media says we’ll do, while others underperform their talent levels (they know who they are).

No, they don't.

Since the second expansion, you've been picked last just three times (2015, 2016, and 2021).

Are you sure about that? If so, that’s a bit surprising if true. It seems like it’s yearly. I guess we can thank Arkansas for the rough patch then.

and they finished 6th in two of those seasons. I see a lot of bitching about their lack of preseason hype in certain seasons, but it seems like their preseason expectations have been pretty spot on more times than not with the exception of the 2014 season

Yep. The media has had them pegged pretty well. 4 conference wins in a good year and 3 otherwise.

Well this team has all the makings of exactly what made the 2014 team. Experienced roster with talent. So we’ll see.

GTFO

Y'all don't have a pro QB under center.
Y'all don't have multiple NFL players on the offensive line (including a pro bowler).
Y'all don't have a running game . . . at all. Hell, y'all don't even run.
But most importantly, y'all don't have multiple future all-pro players on defense (Chris Jones, JT Gray, Bernardrick McKinney).

It happened in 2020. And State has finished 2nd to last in 2010, 2011, 2015, and 2016 with several more 5th place finishes

Correct, we're 2-3 in the last 5 years and last year's game could have gone our way if we had a kicker.

Except one glaring exception....Will Rogers is not in the same universe as Dak Prescott. That 2014 team was a 7-5 team at best without Dak. That 2014 team also had an All-SEC running back and 5 NFL players on defense, something this team doesn't have. I'm seeing two players on the roster this year who made any All-SEC team in 2021 and I'm seeing only 1 who was on the preseason team this year. State has a lot of returning experience, but I'm not sure I can agree that they're overly talented when compared to the conference foes.

You missed one field goal at the beginning of the 2nd half. You think the rest of the game plays out exactly the same had State made it? State was down by 3 scores in the 4th quarter. It took a lot of derping by LSU for State to get back into that game. That would be like me saying the 2014 game could have gone LSU's way had State not had a scoop and score on the first play of the second half.

Lol JT Gray didn’t even start that year. But keep sleeping, NFL scouts disagree with you though.
