Yeah not sure how he totally dismissed a home loss against a 6-7 LSU team with a lame duck coach like it was a good loss. LSU was not a good football team last year

I’m fine with being unranked. Who gives a shite what you’re ranked before even playing. Our finish last year puts us where we are.

I’ll say one thing…these new kickers better be able to kick. Cost us multiple games last year.

State outscored LSU in the second half and dominated LSU in the yardage department. State held LSU to 63 rushing yards and possessed the ball for 9 more minutes too. Hell, State was 12/18 on third down!

But a State fan in this thread tells me the "Leach-coached teams lose a game they shouldn't" saying is a fable.

Losing 3 of their last 4 games (the lone win against Vandy) to close out the 2014 season didn't exactly inspire voters in the preseason polls in 2015.

They also ONLY lost to ranked teams, and finished 9-4, Thats a top 25 finish anywhere else in the SEC West.

Honestly, LSU, in typical fashion, derped their way to let that game be close at the end. LSU was ahead 21-3 late in the third and again 28-10 in the 4th. Almost half of State's total yards came on their last 3 drives of the game. It was a punting competition for most of the game.

It is actually crazy he didn't just luck out and win one of these.

Peterson was no slouch but still

Had you jabronis not had your candy asses whipped in the 2015 Egg Bowl, maybe you would've finished the season ranked.

Leach whole system is built on catching a team sleepwalking, even just for a quarter or two, and put up so many points on them, so fast, that they can't get back in the game.

Problem is, nobody sleepwalks in a big rivalry game.

All I'm saying is that a lot of it has to do with perception, State will never get the benefit of the doubt.

If y'all don't like outsider's perception of State football, then maybe y'all should've thought about that 120 years ago before proceeding to have a bottom 3 history of any P5 football program

And they lost to a bad Memphis State and struggled to beat LA Tech

Anybody with the below facts would be ranked.

Good thing about being in the SEC is win and ranking takes care of itself.

I don't think we should be in the preseason top 25, but I would put UT up there before Miss State. Most of that has to do with them being in the east, but UT also looked very good at the end of last year. We were in a 10 win team last year but we didn't play particularly well at State and still won without much concern. I get that State returns a lot of production but answer honestly, how many of those returning players would be starting at other SEC programs? I don't know the State program that well but the only ones I can think of off the top of my head that I would take are Sharp, Forbes and maybe Wheat. Will Rogers should probably be 2nd team ALL SEC this year but he wouldn't start in most of these other systems.

Peterson also knew how to play defense against Leach's offense

I'm higher on them than most. I believe as of now they play 6 ranked teams so they'll have opportunities to climb up the polls

1. They're Moo St.
2. They play in the West.
3. Leach loses too many stupid games and is 0-10 in Thanksgiving weekend rivalry games.

Probably because they lost by 28 points to a bad Texas Tech team in their bowl game.

Please please national media and consensus keep dumping on us. When we are ranked high, we crap the bed. But when we get slighted, good things happen, and the Grind is assured.

I think most SEC coaches have figured out how to defend his offenses as well. State was 7th in the SEC in total offense last year and T9th in scoring offense. That's not exactly what you'd expect to see out of a coach known for putting up huge offensive numbers. What he does just isn't sustainable in this league. You can't just throw the ball 60+ times a game and expect to take a step beyond averaging 7-8 wins a season like he's done his entire career in three different major conferences. he is who he is IMO at this point in his career, but I just don't see them doing anything significant under Leach without having a more balanced offensive approach.

Just like 2014. Everyone around the MSU program thought we'd be good. Didn't get noticed until we beat LSU in Week 4. Then went to #1 two weeks later.

State's going to have a good team this year. Its a shame its a year we draw Georgia from the East.
