The trolling is due to the W/L records of the teams more than anything. Those that talk the most have done the least.
Rule 1....if your team sucks then try and drag those that have done well down to your level.

Very true. You can tell who doesn't need to troll simply by paying attention to who is at the top of the SEC standings. The top two teams in the standings of a given division are usually secure enough to stick to football. The bottom teams usually don't have much to say. It's the team that finished 3, 4, or 5 in the division that usually can't stick to football.
