The MSU women host #9 seed Oklahoma State tonight with a spot in the Sweet 16 on the line. To the casual observer of women's basketball, this game is a typical 1-9 matchup. State went 30-0 in the regular season and currently sits at 33-1, the only loss coming to Daddy Gamecock in the SEC title game.

Other than that loss to SC, MSU's closest game of the season was a December home game with Oklahoma State. MSU won by three points in a shootout. The Cowgirls are a poor man's version of South Carolina - these teams just give us fits. Its almost like the NCAA looked at potential teams to give us trouble and sent them to Starkville.

It would follow one of the greatest Mississippi State traditions of having awesome regular seasons and bombing out in the postseason.

In 1963, MSU's mens basketball team won the SEC for the fourth time in five years, going 24-1 and getting the program's first NCAA berth. Teams weren't seeded, but MSU received a bye to the Sweet 16. First game - Loyola of Chicago. Loss.

In 1985, MSU's baseball team featured four future Hall of Famers and won their first three games in Omaha. Needing just one win in two tries to make the title game, they lost two in a row to Miami and Texas.

Four years later, one of the greatest regular seasons in SEC baseball history occurred, 50 wins! Only to lose a home regional to Michigan and never make it to Omaha.

In 1991, the men's basketball team bested LSU and Shaq to win the SEC, only to lose badly to Eastern Michigan in the first round of the tournament.

In 1999, the football team got in on the fun, starting the season 8-0 before losing to an Alabama team that lost to Louisiana Tech, missing out on a second straight SEC Championship game. But at least they beat Clemson in the Peach Bowl.

In 2003, the MSU Women's basketball team had a great regular season, lost the SEC Championship game to Tennessee, and earned a #3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Scheduling problems sent us on the road to #6 seed Oregon for the first two rounds, but UAB upset Oregon and then us.

In 2004, MSU's men's team went 26-2 and undefeated on the road to win the SEC Championship. After getting upset by Vanderbilt in the first game of the SEC Tournament, MSU was seeded second in the NCAA Tournament. A blowout first round win over Monmouth was followed by a loss to a Xavier team that they had beaten badly in the regular season.

Then there is 2014 football. They got up to No. 1 in the country before losing three of four to finish the season - including an embarrassing asskicking by Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl.

All SEC champions-SEC representatives played their first NCAA game of that season in the Regional Semifinal, or "Sweet 16" until 1975.

stop looking to the past bro. I don't give a rats arse what you and your generation failed to accomplish. that's whats wrong with you old people. you lack the creativity and vision to see the future and are afraid of a shakeup/change. thus you can't develop a road map to get us there. my generation believes something different. we are tired of your garbage mentality. you are mississippi state of the past. we are mississippi state of the future. we yoke.

pass the ball and sit back and enjoy the show

They put USC and UConn on the opposite side of the bracket as us so we got taken care of as far as I'm concerned. We get OSU in front of a sold out Hump. We should win by 10+.

It’s okay man, I know that feels. We’ve had 1/2 seeds bomb in basketball, baseball, and softball.

there are at least 3 dominating seasons and conference titles that didn’t advance a single round in their respective tournaments.

1989 State Baseball team was loaded. It was a team capable of winning the CWS. We actually lost to N.C. in the Regional at home. Heartbreaking
We lost the third game against them to fall into the losers bracket but came back and to beat them in the first elimination game only to lose in the finale.
That one was tough to swallow. Those 6 team regionals were a booger and if you lost a game in the first three days, it was double tough.

Ok State is a good team. They almost beat us this year. Sometimes its about matchups. We need to play with fire.

I think State got the easiest road to the final 4. The #2 seed in our bracket is Texas and they have 8 losses.

We're playing in the postseason for Men's and Women's Basketball this year. It's really fun. And this NIT is much more fun than I expected. But I guess that's what happens when you play a team with a former player and beat them.

I didn't know we were in the scandal U bracket of the NIT. First they made us go to Baylor, now we have to play @ Louisville tommorow. This almost feels like a NCAA Tournament Field.

And I do hope we don't play sloppy ve Oklahoma State as far as the women go. This is a team that can obviously beat us. So we need to be prepared and avoid a bad upset here.

As far as Ron Polk goes, easily the most overrated coach in this conference. Like anc said above, if he couldn't win a National Championship with Clark and Palimero in a weak SEC was he really that good? No. All he did was make LSU care about baseball and get them to win. What. 6 National Championships? I've lost track due to our patheticness.

Our baseball team is about to go through it's 4th coach in 4 years. I'm tired of this ego our baseball program has when we haven't won it all. If we ever win the thing, fine. But our last CWS was 5 years ago, and it feels like we are very far from getting back. Cohen needs to get the right man here, otherwise we might be in a mess. Because paying 60 million dollars for a staidum with a terrible product is simply dumb.

As I remember it, we were #1 in the country going into the regionals.

Are you inside my head? There are only certain MSU fans that I can say this too.

MSU baseball is completely overrated. We are an above average program. There are MSU fans that think we are elite. We've had some good years, but overall - above average.

I'm not gonna read this. Not because it's too long (it is), but because I can already guess the content and I don't want to ruin my day.
