I think Les biggest mistake of his career was after they won the GOTC Tracy Wolfson asked him what he thought about a rematch and his reply was “ I would be honored to play that team again” IMO he should’ve shot that shite down and said “No, we beat them fair and square give us someone else”

Was that his biggest mistake? IMO it was obvious Bama was the better football team that night and made 100 errors to lose.

Not changing the offense was his biggest mistake. A well noted reason as to why they have lost EIGHT STRAIGHT games to BAMA.

No, it was not adapting the offense to what defenses were giving him.

Ground and pound. That was it.

If the goal is to have the 2 best teams playing at the end of the season, then that is exactly what happened that year. Just because LSU fans didn't like the outcome doesn't mean it was a mistake. They were clearly better than all other teams that year. They just so happened to be in the same division, not just conference.

His biggest mistake was refusing to change the offense

You've lost all credibility then

* Your Stadium
* Attempting FG's that were well past the abilities of your kicker
* No TD's and 6 points

Great teams don't lose those types of games. Bama was gifted a rematch, did not have to play in SECCG, 30+ days of rest and time to prepare.

And Les screwed the pooch by not adjusting to what he knew Bama would plan to stop with JJ.

Les’ biggest “mistake” was not wanting even more money from a shitty Kansas program

His biggest mistake was continuing to want to run the offense head first into a brick wall every week. Especially after the 15 season in which he was explicitly told if he didn’t modernize the offense he would be fired.

Les Miles biggest mistake is so obvious and what in the long run got him fired. The guy just never recruit a decent QB., didn't know how to run a competent offense and never hired a good offensive coordinator,,,,Great defensive coach he was.

Keeping Cam Cameron.
Not realizing he needed to adapt the offense to modern times.

His OC At Kansas literally write a book on the evolution of RPOs. Les was running a re-enactment of 1970 offenses at LSU

Distance was not the problem, he pulled it left or right.

LSU was also gifted an int on the goal line that they did not deserve.

It’s weird how left and right became a much bigger issue when he went outside a certain distance.

I don't know about "biggest" mistake, but yeah, I think he could have taken a firmer stance.

It shouldn't matter who people think is the better team, what happens on the field is what matters. LSU won that game on the road, and by the end had worn down Bama's defense, that should have been the end of it.
Bama fans could scream to high heaven about "gimme a rematch", and go watch their team massacre somebody in another bowl while LSU strangles Oklahoma State for the title.

Maybe it's just me, but it sure seems like LSU isn't the media favorite at times, and ESPN etc wants to prop someone else up in front of them. Bama in 2011, UGA in 2003, then USC in 2003. Ratings play into that, as they spend all preseason building the story for certain teams, and they want those teams at the end.

His biggest mistake wasn't saying he'd like to play Bama again, it was not making a new game plan for that second game.

Dak Prescott was his biggest blunder.

His biggest mistake was to run an antiquated offense which included I-formation, toss dives, 3 yards and a cloud of dust into steel wall defenses. Maybe mix in short side field options, screen plays that fooled no one, and 5 yard pass attempts every now and then.

Edit: to answer what he should have said, maybe something like, "we're taking it one game at a time. We're not looking ahead", rather than the answer he gave. His answer was bad, even if LSU would have won the NC.

What else could Les say being put on the spot like that? He couldn’t say “hell no, we don’t want to play them again”. Had Okla St just won out they would have played LSU in the Crescent City. Bama fans owe a NC to Iowa St really. They gave us the “mulligan”.

9-6 was in a was in fact his biggest win and biggest mistake. He believed that was blue print for success and how to beat bama and stuck with conservative play calling, and playing great defense until he was fired.

Satan changed with the times, Les didn’t

I remember watching that game with my dad and they showed a shot of Saban with this look on his face. My dad said son Les Miles will never beat Nick Saban again. I said you’re fricking crazy.
