Was the 2003 LSU game the apex of modern Ole Miss football?

Modern meaning after integration. It was Eli’s senior day and they won they would have gone to Atlanta. I vividly remember being in Oxford that day & you would have thought Ole Miss was Ohio State the way the rebel fans were acting before the game. Of course they were awfully quiet on the way out.

They were talking a bunch of shite before that game but I think they’re apex was Bama win that year with Bo Wallace. Looked like they were for real. I think 2014. Ironically enough daddy still won.

I think we had Anthony Jennings at QB and still won.

What was on the line in that game though? You won it Bama won the West anyway. The feeling in the air before the 2003 game was palpable as Ole Moss fans could taste Atlanta.

That didn't happen though. For some reason the 2016 Sugar Bowl wasn't vacated otoh so I'd say that's y'all's high water mark

I watched this game not that long ago on CST. Hard hitting game. The hit that Michael Clayton took to the ear hole on the touchdown was vicious. I was surprised he was able to play after that.

Still a better QB than Bo that year. Bo had an injured shoulder all season, couldn't throw the ball over 20 yards

I think Ole Miss was ranked in the Top 3 at one point a few years ago.

I'd say the apex was the second before Treadwell's leg snapped.

They were going to beat #4 Auburn and be 9-1 after they beat Presbyterian the next week as the clear favorite to win the SEC.

Instead, his leg snapped, he fumbled, they lost.

How about when they beat No. 4 Florida with Tebow in 2008? My brother was there.

Not really, he had 4tds just 2 years earlier in Tiger Stadium in a game where the defense dropped the ball. It's hard to win in Tiger Stadium, but the stage wasn't too much for him. A bum shoulder was too much for him

I was there. He was clearly rattled and then he gave the crowd the finger to prove it.

We've been doing this long enough that we know when we're in an opposing Qb's head. He didn't go to pieces like Dj Shockley but he was definitely rattled. Like in NCAA when all the receiver routes become squiggly lines.

Oddly enough I was at both and 2014 Bama slightly beats it out. That launched them into a top 3 ranking (with us lol fricking Mississippi, man) in the first CFB playoff poll. Not to mention the fact that College Gameday was there for the first time ever and how great of an impact social media played in the buildup that you didn’t have in 03. That alone put Ole Miss on the map for the next couple years

Well yeah, they have the co champion banner to prove it don't they? Even though they didn't play in ATL for the title that season and LSU was clearly the winner of the west, the conference as a whole, and was eventually the bcs national champion.

To answer your question though...yes, that was the best ole miss football can be. They will never be better than 2nd in the west. Period.

Hell fricking no it wasn't the Bama game in 2014. That game had zero implications on the sec title that season, where the LSU game in '03 meant everything. What are you talking about? The '03 LSU game was as close as ole miss has ever been to winning the west, but they didn't...so yeah, that was the high water mark for y'all's program. So sad.
