Was hiring Nick Saban the worst decision in LSU football history?

Alternative universe where LSU does not hire Nick Saban from Michigan state in 1999. He stays with the Spartans for 1 more year but than goes to Alabama in 2001 instead of Dennis the menace. After a couple years at Bama, Saban gets the NFL itch and jumps ship. Than after flaming out in the NFL Saban wants to return to the college ranks. If the timing is right and he lands at LSU it would have been fun to laugh at les miles as Bama coach

What we got at LSU was a great improvement over what had been happening for most of the 90s.

In this alternate universe, Saban wouldnt have left Alabama without achieving success, so assuming that he won a championship in year 2 or 3 and he did jump to the NFL, flamed out after a year or 2, it would all depend on timing and which high profile college jobs were open.

Due respect, but LSU would most likely still be without a national championship since the 50’s, so i would think that if Saban left the NFL in 04 or 05 (assuming the Ron Zook tenure in Gainesville still occurred), Florida would have been a much more appealing/ideal program to resurrect. He certainly would have been a better candidate at the time than a Natty-less Urban Meyer.

Another question, would Saban have come to Alabama with the incoming sanctions about to tear us a new one?

Give my Saban at LSU and the title at '03. Contrary to what Bama fans think many LSU fans don't hate the man and appreciate the facility upgrades and center for athletes his wife was pushing for. It's not our fault nobody else in the SEC can beat him but we're gonna try Saturday

Nope the climb from 2000-2003 were the best years of my life as a sports fan. Death Valley was truly alive.

Saban would've returned to LSU had Miles left for Michigan.

Then we had to go and win a national championship or something.......

Would hiring the best coach to ever coach in college football be the worst decision your school ever made?

What a moron
