We have seen voters like Dan Wolken and David Hale, write hit piece after hit piece on Swinney and there is no doubt that their votes were swayed. There were a lot more around the country than just these two, they just happened to be the most high-profile.

Yeah, it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Smith is just that good.

Lawrence was the second best player.

I don’t care but this is twice in the last six years that a Clemson football player has been the best player in the country, and the award that is supposed to represent such a player has gone to someone else

Let's dissect shall we
Etienne is in fact a first round talent and has 48 receptions this season
Additional awful players Lawrence was spreading the ball to:
Amari Rodgers - #117 ranked player in the 2017 class, and a top 20 WR in his class
Cornell Powell - #159 ranked player in 2016 class, and a top 30 receiver in his class
EJ Williams - #69 ranked player (Nice!) in his class, and a top 15 WR
Frank Ladson Jr - #39 ranked player in his class, and a top 10 WR.
Oh the lack of weapons Lawrence had this season was truly outstanding!
That's an average of 3300 yards, 30 TDs and 6 Ints a season over almost 3 full seasons
Let's look at the Heisman finalist QBs in those seasons!
Fields in 2019 had a 40/1 TD to Int ratio before the heisman ceremony with 10 more rushing TDs
Burrow passed for fing 60 TDs last season
Lawrence completed his season 36 TDs and 8 Ints. Anyone can say that both Burrow and Fields had better 2019 seasons than Lawrence
2018 Lawrence went 30/4, I would say his best season.
In 2018, Haskins threw for 47 TDs, Tua was 37/4 and Murray was 40/7 along with 900 yards rushing
TLDR: Lawrence was never close to winning this award in any season, and shouldn't have been handed it as some "career achievement award"

Well unlike Mac Jones, Kyle Trask, and winner DeVonta Smith, Lawrence wasn’t surrounded by first-round NFL talent.

Media irrational love of Trevor Lawrence got him into 2nd.
In no realistic measure was he better than ...5th.

In what way was he better than Jones or Trask? Lawrence is an otherwordly talent and will justifably be picked 1st overall. But he was not the best QB in the country in 2020.

Spot on, IMO.
Trevor Lawrence cost Trevor Lawrence the Heisman Trophy this season, and he shouldn't have been second based on his actual performance on the field.

He wasn't even in the top 5 he got 2nd place because of his career achievements. Which weren't even that great.

I mean no offense by this but that’s a very Bama style point of view. Trevor didn’t lose he beat himself.

Players that miss games rarely win the Heisman.

Trevor Lawrence had a dgaf attitude this year. I believe that and his leadership cost him the votes.

No kidding. Like if he was a senior who had legitimate Heisman worthy seasons as a sophomore and junior I'd kind of get it, but he has at no point in his career even been a top 5 QB in the country, much less a top 5 overall player, strictly from a production standpoint. Literally any argument you can make for him is necessarily grounded in team achievements and his physical talent/NFL draft stock because you can't make a serious argument for him based solely on his individual production.

Where Trevor finished in stats that don't care if you miss games (these include the postseason as I don't have the numbers from before those games handy):
Yards per game: 8th
Comp %: 9th
Rating: 12th
The guy he finished ahead of, Jones, is on pace to break the record for highest passer rating in NCAA history. He currently has a 203.3
Lawrence's BEST season was 169.18 (this year). He has never finished higher than 8th in rating and has never gotten within 30 points of the leader for any season.

no. Devonta Smith just deserved it more than Lawrence did. For that matter, Mac Jones had a better year than Lawrence did, and since the trophy is not for pro potential, Jones also would have deserved it more.

Smith absolutely deserved Heisman.
