Ah.. so Barnes is quitting while he's ahead. Smart move.

Somebody actually got their license plate as the score of that game. It's on display at the Germantown Commissary.

Yeah, I see a bunch of dick sucking in this thread about how much Memphis sucks, Penny sucks, blah, blah, blah.

The facts are that UT doesn't want to play Memphis anymore. They were fine with it when Memphis sucked, but now that Memphis is building a program, welp, it's time to tuck tail and run.

It's not especially surprising to me. UT would really benefit from that game because it would help them recruit the Memphis area, but they're too chicken shite to take the risk.

"Building a program"

What Wisconsin and Gonzaga did or does is called building a program.

What Memphis has done in the past and what it does now is called violation of code section 45-2 of the NCAA manual

They'd do better if they'd make "Strong arse Offfers", right?

Other than last year we weren't playing them anyway and tbh, I was shocked we scheduled them at all.

Yep same with LSU. Anyone who cuts corners can frick off in my opinion. Will wade is a chump and shouldn't be coaching. Sean Miller can frick off. Bill Self and on and on.

Penny Hardaway, even though I loved him as a player, is trending this way too. He can frick off too.

Penny was the money man for the AAU he coached and most of his roster comes from that. There was no way for him to start out clean. He might be able to get clean now that he's out of AAU but AAU basketball is a cesspool and even moreso in Memphis.

In all seriousness, I would like to see them play every year in football and basketball. Home and home for both... The year basketball is in Memphis, football is in Knoxville and so on. I know it won't ever happen, but I'd like to see it happen.

This isn't exactly untrue.

There's a guy that comes on Gary Parrish's radio show every Tuesday, can't remember his name, but he's a long time AAU coach... he said you be shocked at some of the stuff that goes on in AAU, because he is shocked at it.

Why would we lower ourselves to play Memphis every year?

Politics between the two schools and actual state politicians. As soon as we reschedule a series, someone or everyone will say something to piss the other side off. It's been that way as long as I can remember. I don't know if we'll ever get matchups for more than a home and home with years apart before we reschedule each other again.

I honestly believe that AAU is the most corrupt sport on the planet (well maybe the Olympic committee and FIFA committee that determine host sites are worse but not by much). It's awful. It puts the shite college football and basketball do to shame.

Hell, you lower yourselves to play Georgia State and Chattanooga.

TBH, I'm not sure what incentive there is to play Memphis in football. It's an in-between school as far as that goes and we already play an OOC P5 (I think we play Oklahoma again next year). We have BAMA every year as our cross-div which puts us at a disadvantage in the East every single year and there's no bonus points for making your non-P5 schedule more difficult.

If you take rivalries and politics out of it completely, I just don't see where we'd benefit.
