Everyone knows it, AAU coaches, shoe companies, and boosters make payments to get kids to “school” - once there, the overwhelming majority don’t actually do schoolwork. College basketball is the dirtiest sport by a mile, and there’s no denying it. Has the NCAA ever really shown an interest in it being any other way?

They're forced to show an interest when it's on tape

Is this the "bargaining" stage?

Good point. Do they just enforce it when it’s not plausibly deniable? Of course the cancelled check to Cam Newton’s Father didn’t seem to matter.

It's time to clean up the sport. NCAA will make an example of LSU and hopefully everyone else will straighten up.

They actually have Zion’s name being said and what all it would take to get him to Kansas and all of a sudden he signs with Duke for his 1 year. Crickets on that shite. The NCAA doesn’t want this level of dirt to get turned over.

To be clear, I loathe college basketball, I wish the NCAA would drop it entirely, but it will be interesting when the FBI tapes come out for the Nike investigation.

LSU will get hammered due to a lower basketball profile. Zion, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, and a handful of other blue bloods will go on playing with nothing said. Example

DeAndre Ayton didnt miss a game for Arizona last year after Miller was recorded offering 100k to sign him

5* Wiley misses entire year and Purifoy misses year and a half for Auburn when their parents accepted 7k from agent to LEAVE Auburn and go pro. Everytime AU plays it is still mentioned and is mentioned out of context as well...as if they were paid to sign with AU.

Still waiting for anyone at ESPN to mention Zion and Duke

You nailed it on the head. That's a huge piece of the puzzle that LSU fans refuse to acknowledge. The NCAA plays politics when it comes to punishments in CBB, and LSU doesn't have any clout in CBB to save them.

LSU is the perfect program to make an example of for CBB. They don't have any clout in the sport so it doesn't if the NCAA drops crippling sanctions to send a message. They're still a very visible school in college athletics with a large and vocal fanbase, which ensure that the message will get across to the rest of the NCAA. The situation is a lot like Ole Miss football, LSU basketball went from being irrelevant and bottom of the SEC barrel for years, then hire a flashy coach who immediately and blatantly starts buying recruits. No subtly at all, targeting players who obviously have no legitimate reason to be considering LSU.

Wade and LSU are being too bold, just like Freeze and Ole Miss

I kind of agree but you're missing the point that the fbi has the info and the info will become public. There is a reason this is taking a while, they are trying to figure out how to handle it. I personally could see this boiling over to other sports if the wrong people are pissed off.

So with what we all know is going on, the ncaa has two choices. Let it go with minor infractions or drop the hammer and punish all of the schools which includes many blue bloods. We know there is evidence of certain schools actually discussing money (Arizona and Duke) .... Unlike LSU which just discussed an offer, which could be anything. This is the situation where the fbi has tons of evidence and if you piss off the wrong school the curtain will be pulled back and it will be total chaos.

Personally I just can't see the ncaa dropping the hammer on over 20 schools. Everyone knows it goes on. I think they are trying to make LSU look bad to divert the pressure from the blue bloods.

And far less than their football counterparts from the sound of it.

NCAA makes a ridiculous amount of money from the tourney alone. Over 1 billion in 2017. They will look the other way more times than not.

SpencerRob more than the last 20 years, I scouted some basketball in the early and mid 80's....

all the big time programs were paying players...

we even knew to within 30k how much x program got the 5 players that made that team in the 80's.
