In 1906 they were the first southern team to beat a northern team.

In 1910 they tied Yale who was a top tier program then.

In 1922 their tie with Michigan shocked the world. Michigan was expected to dominate but Vandy showed what southern football was all about.

Vandy actually had a small dynasty going in the early 20th century.

They have 14 conference titles.... 12 SIAA titles & 2 SoCon titles.

From 1901-1913, Vandy had a record of 61-4-4; with 6 undefeated, untied seasons.

In 1921, Vandy was 7-0-1, conference champion & was named retroactive NC by Berryman. Vandy does not claim this NC even though they were the only undefeated contender; and shutout 6 teams including Texas, Alabama, Tennessee & Sewanee.

In 1922, Vandy again was name conference champion & retroactive NC by Berryman. Vandy does not claim this Natty either. They went 8-0-1 and defeated Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, Sewanee & tied Michigan.

The Commodores' defense was unrivaled in the South, leading the nation in giving up just 1.8 points per game, none of them at home.

Vandy was a better football program than Alabama back then.

Vanderbilt was the South's first good program, true. But Georgia Tech put southern football on the map in 1917.

Dude Berryman was just some guy with a computer who picked champions retroactively. He didn't even start doing it until 1990.

You Bama folks will claim anything, I swear.

Neyland was hired to beat Vandy. He proceeded to kick their arse and keep them in 1920s.

Why? He roasted the Pats on Monday and gets 3 mediocre defenses to finish the season

That was when they didn't wear helmets.

Once the helmets came into the game, and the offensive guys got bigger.

Vandy just gave up. Said frick it, we just going to fake it and cheer

Iron Men, Never Forget!

As to OP, Vanderbilt made that school in Austin quit. I think the Dores have a 2:1 win ratio and they were the original opponent at the State Fair, not Sooners.
