Gonna be a lot of fighting over John Pelphrey's services now.

Looks like he could be Will Wade’s twin!

You joke. But John Pelphrey is a far better coach then either of those.

He will likely get another shot with so many openings.

Looks like the AD found some dirt and got in front of it; otherwise jeez, 3 yrs, good recruiting class

There was plenty of talent after Darius got hurt. Vandy trounced ASU (tourney team) after Darius went down. The team regressed at an historic and alarming rate from there. The fact that Drew and his staff couldn't develop the talent that he had and manage a team through this season speaks volumes.

There is no school in the SEC that would have tolerated an 0-19 season and kept their coach. None.

I think there had to be other issues. Those issues could’ve contributed to the 0-19 record. But I’m guessing the underlying issues drove the firing.

This.

He had another top 10 and top 50ish recruit just from this last class.

There are several 4* players on Vandy's team.

It's not like he just had Garland and a bunch of Fairleigh Dickinson level players.

0-19 is inexcusable.

I am a Vandy season ticket holder for basketball and football. The team this year had more problems than Drew. Your best player, probably best ever, gets hurt in game 4. Your team basically has one guy on it who had ever shown a modicum of reliability on the court. The rest were youngsters. Shittu clearly has the athletic ability but the dude is stunningly raw.

The record may have been bad but I would have given him another year, bring back a bunch of kids with a little experience.

The only players on that team at the beginning of the season who anyone who follows basketball considered particularly talented were DG, Shittu, and Nesmith. DG, the lynchpin of the team went down early. Shittu clearly has athletic ability but is stunningly raw. He can't even shoot a jump shot or a free throw. He was not ready for primetime. Nesmith was the best player on the team after DG went down but never should have had to carry that. You can bitch about the record but that roster is garbage. Lee isn't a reliable PG. Nobody inside was any good. Wetzel and Brown wouldn't start on any team in the SEC.

Who's fault is this? A pile of 4*s (not just the freshmen) and he couldn't do anything with them in terms of development or game plan/strategy on either end of the floor. Coaches in this conference coached circles around him. Overmatched.

There's no "one more year" here. Say he comes back and they go from 0 conference wins to 5 or 6. Is that acceptable enough to give him a 5th year? Either you fire him now or you commit to him for another 2 years at least. Hard to justify years 4 and 5 after the colossal embarrassment we saw this year.

But you’re going to take another mid major coach who will likely not recruit as good as Drew did and hope it gets better. You’ll have some roster attrition with a coaching change and hope that year 3 of your new coach is better than 2017-18.

I’m guessing that there’s some systemic issues that go far deeper than the SEC record that necessitated this move. Because firing Drew now is a commitment to being kinda good in 2022.

I tend to agree. 0-19 with worse records each year is tough to overlook, but it seemed like the future held some promise.

By pile you mean Lee (the one I referred to and he was supposed to be playing shooting guard but moved after DG's injury) and Brown who is and has always been worthless. These cats are not ready yet.
