UT and OU to SEC seems like media BS

The more I think about it, the more it sounds like a planted media storm.
1. There has been NO smoke leading up to this.
2. Big 12 Grant of Rights has 4 years left on it, so unless the Big 12 is going to implode and cease to exist altogether, it can't happen for another 4+ years.
3. A&M AD flat out said the SEC athletic directors have not discussed this. Which directly contradicts the "anonymous reports" that these discussions were a big deal at the last AD meeting.
4. OU and OSU are likely still joined at the hip, which would prevent OU from joining with Texas.
5. LHN is still an albatross that would have to be scrapped before any conference would consider adding Texas.
6. Austin American Statesman reporters saying they have SEC sources telling them Texas can join with a majority vote by SEC members, which is flat out wrong.
7. No outcry from other Big 12 schools. Which means there haven't been ANY leaks from anyone until today, which I find unlikely if these discussions had actually been happening.
Thinking about all these at once, and I just don't think there's any way there are real legs to this story, or that maybe it was mentioned in some capaicity, but that this has been blown WAY out of proportion by media sources desperate for a story.
UT has a lot of pull with media in Texas, and has a history of driving stories they want driven even when there's nothing to them. The more I think about it, the more it seems like another of those occurrences. I doubt anything has been discussed, or that anything will come of this.

Some spare reporter made the proclamation. Looks like he has never shaved in his life. Take it for what it’s worth, total bullshite.

This seems more like a win for OU. I suppose it would improve our home ticket sales. A&M is a huge loser in this scenario though lmao.

Yeah, but at the end of the day, you are the ones that have to go play Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech. Advantage TAMU.

Could be as simple as Texas/OU letting everyone know (current Big12 included) that they’re looking
SEC media days is probably the biggest stage to get that out there
Personally I just don’t see the numbers in the SEC. would be really tough to get the needed 11 votes

This is just a what if bs exploratory when contracts run out in a couple of years. It was never supposed to be out there obviously. I believe when expansion fever was lit back in the day, footsie was played with Ok and Horns by the PAC 12. Oklahoma legislature said Oak State went wherever Okie went. Not happening unless Mizzou gets jettisoned.

I understand that you're having trouble coping, but this IS happening.
It is important for you to move past the denial stage and graduate to anger; the sooner the better for your mental health.

This is by far the most likely explanation. Big 12 is not an equal revenue sharing conference. UT and OU already take a bigger share than everyone else.
I think they are putting yhis story out in the media as posturing to pressure the other 8 Big 12 schools to increase UT and OU's share of the revenue again.

Makes no sense. With playoff expansion just around the corner, why would you kill off the conference that gives you the best path to the post season.
Maybe a shot across the bow of the networks for the next TV deal, give us better money or we bolt? But it's a bluff that makes no sense. Of course, in Texas's universe, the shots are theirs to call, with OU along for the ride.

They aren't trying to kill the Big 12. They want to squeeze more money out of it for themselves, at the expense of the other 8 member schools. Just like they did back in 2011 when the Big 12 guaranteed $20 million minumum payouts to UT and OU, let everyone else split the rest, and gave TCU and WVU partial shares.
The other schools won't like it, but they'll do it because they know if UT and OU leave they'll lose even more money getting relagated to CUSA.
UT and OU gove themselves a raise, and hamstring the rest of the conference to make their path to a playoff bid even easier than it is now. Classic UT behavior.
