A&M is letting go of a guy who made 1.6 M last year. I think A&M could come in at 1.75 - 2 million with multiple years guaranteed. I don't think getting bumped up over a million will be enough to keep him if push comes to shove.

Edit: right now Muschamp is making 3 million per (based on a quick google search). I cannot see USC matching anything close to 1.6 (over 50% of the HC).

Except Muschamp is also in line for a sizable raise, so it wouldn't be over 50% any more. Spurrier's last season at USC in 2015 he was paid $4 million/year which was the 4th highest salary in the SEC at the time: that doesn't mean that Muschamp will get bumped up to that range, but it does show that USC can be competitive with coaches salaries when it needs to be.

As was posted above, T-Rob is an excellent recruiter, but he's a bit green as a DC being just 2 years on the job here at USC, and even then he has Muschamp's guidance to keep him progressing. At Texas A&M, Jimbo don't know defense, so that weight will all be on T-Rob's shoulders.

IMO, unless T-Rob has a mountain of confidence in himself, he's staying at USC for at least a couple more years before testing the waters on going solo.

Heck, they still are in the process of building USC's defense from the gutters where Spurrier left it - they've made huge strides forward, but IMO they expect to have USC's D as one of the conference leaders in another year or two. When that happens, T-Rob will have a resume of substance as a coordinator to shop around at other programs. He doesn't right now....

I’m not all in on t rob but if you look at his last 30 follows, I bet 15 of them are Aggie related.

If he moves then it's because of a boat load more money. It would have to be a silly amount more than SC would be willing to pay.

Well damn, yall might as well start telling him goodbye.

Paying a silly amount of money for coaches is our MO right now.

I hear ya, Nguyening.
I made the same comment in my post at the bottom of pg. 1 of this thread:

Apparently half of our defensive players started following him on Twitter today (and vice versa), hence some of the buzz.

In hindsight, it’s quite a bit fewer than “half;” more like “a few.”

Regardless, I sure would like to have a DC in place sooner rather than later.

Well, if that's the case, then he may leave. I do know our BoTs are adverse to overpaying - they are budget oriented. They will not be played for massive contract increases.

So, as someone speculated earlier, if A&M were to throw $1.6 million at him then he may well leave. That would make him the the second highest paid DC in the country I believe.

I saw the numbers recently, I think in a paper somewhere in one of the airports when I was traveling back from Texas. If I remember correctly Arranda at LSU is making like $1.8 million followed by Venerables at Clemson at $1.7 million and then there was Chavis at $1.6 million. Canada at LSU was at $1.5 million.

I'm just not sure T-Rob, as a stand-alone DC without mUSChamp's guidance, is worth $1.6 million right now. He's a helluva recruiter though.

You nailed the top ones.

Going into 2017 there were 15 coordinators that made 1.0+. 9 of them were in the SEC, mostly DCs.

There's more than one explanation for that...

They just had a coach get fired. Ever think that he may be seeing if any of the rats want off the ship?

That's what stuck-out in the piece to me. Top 15 and nine or ten of them were SEC. I wanna say Michigan had three, Oregon one and maybe it was Orlando at Texas as the other one? Add them to Venerables and that would make six ... so you're right, nine of them would be SEC.

That's pretty incredible.

T-Rob is about to be offered a pay raise that will put him over $1.0+ million here at SC. I'm hearing mUSChamp will come in close to $5 million and BMac is looking at $750k.

Von Miller is no longer eligible, but maybe that one is unrelated.

Would be very dumb for A&M to throw that kind of money at him. Has he ever coached a defense without Boom? I like him but he isnt proven by any means
