I hope there's a press conference where he sobs like a child again.

Barnes met with Big Jim, Peyton and Jon Gilbert the morning after Tennessee Tech game (morning of A&M football game)- to try and get Gilbert in but sounds like Plowman and Boyd are hesitating because of his involvement in the Tyndall hire.

Barnes/Peyton/Haslams/Pratt have the reigns now.

Peyton just did this to his head coach? Wow, how the mighty have fallen.

Fulmer has not been fired. Knoxville News Sentinel is reporting that Fulmer is retiring and will be involved in the hiring of his replacement. That replacement will then hire the next head football coach.

What a shite show if true.

What about the UAB AD Ingram? I’ve heard his name thrown around a lot as Heavy’s replacement

Sounds like it is a retirement by Fulmer, not a firing of Fulmer. That's the way WJOX in Birmingham is explaining it.

Peyton/Fulmer have heat because Peyton didn’t endorse him for the AD job last time it was open when he slithered in the back door.

Whatever Fulmer says know he was fired. Had no power players behind him. Barnes/Peyton/Haslams all hated him and blew him out.

If you're going to fire Pruitt for recruiting violations, it only makes sense to fire Fulmer, who was one of the biggest cheaters in the country during his time.

Guys - but I thought Fulmer did all this to get Pruitt’s job. This can’t be right?

Yeah, the Knoxville News Sentinel is reporting that Fulmer will retire, not that he has been fired.

quote:

Additionally, athletics director Phillip Fulmer will retire, sources said, after UT hires an AD to replace him, because he wants his successor to choose the next football coach. Fulmer made the decision to step down, and his departure is not tied to the investigation.
