Is UM off the hook? Is the Maryland dumpster fire overshadowing Ohio’s investigation and in turn taking all the attention from UM?

How bad does it look if UM gets fired and Durkin keeps his job

This. What Urban is being accused of didn't cause anyone to die even if it is true. A player dying is almost inexcusable.

Once they announced the 14 day investigation, he was going to be off the hook. 14 days is a lifetime in today's fast paced news cycles.
tOSU just picked that amount of time to allow the public's disdain for Urban to die down, in fact he may gain sympathy, and then come out with their "independent" findings that he has done nothing wrong and in fact he's started a battered women's charity.
The Maryland thing only helps.

I think just the opposite. Maryland jumped right on it, took full blame, fired an assistant and will probably fire the head coach. In contrast, tOSU is doing a tap dance, cUM didn't know about abuse, dui, his wife kept it secret, tOSU is not responsible for cUM's training techniques while at Fla., yada, yada.

The contrast between Maryland taking responsibility and tOSU evading the issue is going to smell like lack of institutional control to the NCAA particularly in the wake of the Tressel fiasco. As soon as the administrators realize this, cUM is gone.

In a millennial world, an abused female outweighs a dead male.

Didn't Durkin work for Meyer?

All roads seem to lead back to Meyer at this point.

I think he's done. I believe OSU will give him a million to walk away. They will save about $5 million this year in coach salary and spend the year figuring out who to get next.

I think they'll go after Stoops but honestly they should bring back the sweater vest. He got a raw deal there. He's a good coach and a good fit for them.

Well, we might want to wait to see if there's more fallout from the Florida players and if the investigation finds similar practices from Meyer at OSU. If so, then I don't see how they have a choice - they would fire him.

No tOSU is trying to figure out how much all of this is going to cost them and lining up the PR team to handle the fallout when the investigation is complete.

No. Durkin played for and coached for Urban Meyer. He is a Meyer protege. As is the fired S and C coach. Meyer is deeper in and "ALL ROADS LEAD TO MEYER"....Maryland wanted their own Urban Meyer and they got him. He also worked under Harbaugh. As far as hardnose football coaches the B1G has made the SEC look like pansies over the past few years.

I thought his strategy was to get in the bunker and stay there until the next press cycle/big story. This is exactly what they did. Urban not going anywhere.

Next part is positive media buys.

Since Maryland is about to get fried for mis-handling or abusing an athlete, I don't see it getting better for Urban since he's accused of the same things

Possibly but my guess is no. The Maryland thing will boil over soon (its horrible, but its so horrible its going to done and finished soon with the responsible parties hung out to dry) and then Ohio State will find itself drifting back to the front page of the Scandals with the Meyer thing and their doctor molesting athletes double header.

Meyer is a very convenient scapegoat for a bunch of folks at Ohio State who are probably looking for ways to somehow save their careers.

If he survives this, and he might because Ohio State is the holy citadel of hypocrisy, then Meyer wins the Artful Dodger award of the year.
