1/16 KenPom Rankings

I can not figure out why Auburn is ranked behind Kentucky at this point considering they are ranked in the top 20 in both offense and defense efficiency (due to them playing Ole Miss which is a meh team in rankings). State and Arkansas biggest mover up from yesterday games. LSU takes a huge hit and offense efficiency is not good at 104. Tennessee and Bama hold on in the top 20 despite taking L's yesterday!

3. Kentucky
9. Auburn
12. LSU
14. Tennessee
17. Bama
37.Florida
38. Arkansas
40. State

57. aTm (thought they would be ranked higher but offense and defense efficiency is meh).

Kenpom isn’t perfect and usually continues to get better over time. Having said that, the potential UK showed yesterday is scary. I hate they are figuring it out right before coming to Auburn. Next Saturday should be fun.

I’m still a little gun shy on this group. The schedule though, sets up for Arkansas nicely the next couple weeks and also a chance at a solid OOC win.

vs SCar
vs aTm
@ Ole Miss
vs West Va
@ UGA
vs Miss St.

If Arkansas takes care of business and continues to play like it did this week, the potential to be 18-5 (7-3 SEC) overall is there before welcoming Auburn to The Palace.

Auburn won on the road and dropped a spot.

I will say it again.......this Kenpom thing is pure shite.

I think Arkansas goes 5-1 in that stretch and rights the ship.

It’s a predictive model based exclusively on efficiency and not a ranking of current resume though, right?

I imagine last night’s game lowered our defensive efficiency.

This is why I have always said Kenpom is pure BS.

The first thing you should know about this system is that it is designed to be purely predictive. If you’re looking for a system that rates teams on how “good” their season has been, you’ve come to the wrong place.

Correct...

And KenPom is not shite. Teams ranked in the top 20 in offense and defense efficiency in his rankings tend to be National Champions every year (only one that wasn't was the UConn team).

While the MO for Muss' teams are to stumble early in SEC schedules while he figures out the right lineups, which have been new every year, this team is still figuring out both scoring and defensive consistency at the same time.

I could see us going 6-0 or 0-6 in that stretch. 4-2 is the minimum we need to maintain momentum and getting closer to a decent seed.

The only way I see that as a problem is if it is the only or primary consideration. If it is simply one of many tools used to evaluate teams, I think that is a good thing.

I think Kenpom factors into NET… which the committee definitely looks at. Beyond that I don’t think so.

State has the talent and depth to make some noise but whether we do so remains to be seen.

The game @Florida is very important but not make or break. But winning on the road against a good team in a difficult arena would huge.

We will see what happens.

I love where the SEC is now in basketball. League play now hardens our tournament teams vs just being UK.

Seems A&M and State should be ranked above Florida and Arkansas

How is Bama still 17? This seems like crap

We need to beat Florida and OM because we have UK and Texas Tech after them.

The Bama and Arkansas wins will end up being quality wins
