re: Update: TX/OU reached out to SEC as early as December. A&M likely leaked. Deal close.

But this is also about positioning for a future super conference (or group of super conferences) that breaks away from the NCAA, which I have predicted will absolutely happen.

I agree 1000%. I think the writing is on the wall that this NIL thing will crush the NCAA. They will try to come up with ways to police it and whatnot, but Ultimately your bigger market teams will be pulling in even better players now due to the increase in opportunity to make money. I think because of this, among other things, super conferences will form. The SEC is being proactive here. They would have a better chance of overseeing their league in a more organized way than the NCAA can a huge league.

I debate the next move for the rest of college leagues in this country. I think that's where things will get the most interesting.

LOL at Aggie. They run from one big brother in one conference to another big brother in this one. Now they will have two.

I don't overtly insult people on this site, but people saying A&M "ran from" big brother ten years ago because they were scared are pretty shallow, uninformed thinkers. They pursued the most beautiful girl at the party and hooked up with her.

A&M has been proven right over the last ten years. They are at the party and now their tormenters want in. They are absolutely justified in being against this. From Louisiana east, SEC schools know less and less about what Texas has wrought on its partners in the SWC and Big 12. Whatever.

Aggies, I and a lot of Texas Tigers are glad you made the decision to come to the SEC. You are a perfect match, despite what you read on this board. I think A&M knew these discussions were happening and will reluctantly get on board, but it will be understandably painful.

Not sure why anyone in the SEC would want this

It's simple really. For the schools it's money. For the fans it's entertainment. Wouldn't you rather watch LSU play Texas or Oklahoma than Mississippi State?

Agreed, I will add that early on I wasn’t a fan of Sankey’s decisions(getting snowed by Foley at Florida on game change).
Now I am a fan and quite appreciative of his Leadership last year in not only getting SEC CFB but all CFB played, calling out as best possible Emmert and NCAA, now being forefront on conference/super conference alignment and not scrambling to pick through scraps. Well don commissioner Sanjay!

Right except soon the playoff will have 12 teams. So plenty of room for as many as 4 teams from the SEC. This makes the SEC pretty bullet proof for many many years to come.

I could be wrong, but something tells me that the almost cancelled football season might have accelerated the vision of eliminating the NCAA as a holder of power in sports. What will be fascinating when they move away is what happens to the basketball tournament. Really need the ACC or BIG 10 to break away as well to cripple NCAA and make the new tournament worthwhile or have negotiation power to keep intact but let the conferences get a bigger piece of that huge pile of money that the NCAA gets.
Ohio State football was strong enough within BIG10 to un-cancel the season, will see if they can lead the March away from the NCAA in that region

No, they are part of the SEC and I enjoy the games.

I would rather play UT/OU than McNeese and Utah State.
