re: Update: TX/OU reached out to SEC as early as December. A&M likely leaked. Deal close.

12 team playoff is going to have teams with 2-3 losses in it every year most likely.

And this makes the Kim Mulkey to LSU more understandable.. she knew that the Big12 was going to callapse and would leave Baylor searching for a new conference.

Want OU, do not want Texas.
They screw up everything they get involved with.

Not sure why anyone in the SEC would want this (unless the SEC were to break away from the NCAA and have its own super conference, which I would be in favor of)
But this just makes it way harder to stand out and earn a playoff spot.
But this is also about positioning for a future super conference (or group of super conferences) that breaks away from the NCAA, which I have predicted will absolutely happen.

But this just makes it way harder to stand out and earn a playoff spot. Oklahoma has nearly always been in the Playoff, and everyone is always waiting for an excuse for Texas to be a national powerhouse again (being in the SEC would help the, recruit I Imagine).
Adding to big National programs looks great for the SEC as undeniably the best conference in the country, but for one it already was. And for two, it’s just going to really muddy the waters when it comes time for championship season. Everyone’s going to beat each other once or twice because of high quality opponents, and then some small no-namer like Boise St or UCF will eat a few spots
This is just a terrible take. We routinely have one and two loss schools above an undefeated small school. If anything, this will help the SOS and prevent those small schools even more so. This is all a mute point though as the playoffs are expanding.

LOL at Aggie. They run from one big brother in one conference to another big brother in this one. Now they will have two.

&M likely choose to leak story to Houston Chronicle during their day at SEC media days and had their AD present and ready to make a statement. This was in a last ditch effort to subvert plans.
SEC’s decision likely coming in 2-3 weeks, and is expected to be a unanimous “yes” despite Aggies efforts to block. Ags will likely have no choice but to vote yes publicly, per sources to the Late Kick’s Josh Pate.
aggy gonna aggy. huff and puff and fail miserably

As much as UT/OU hate each other, pretty neat to see them working together as a package deal.
Posted on 7/23/21 at 10:38 am to jbraua
It only takes 4 teams to block this.
Ya think that UT will give up the most lucrative network in college sports?

Longhorn network has been a complete failure. No UT fan actually gives a shite about it.

The SEC and all other conferences across the country were hit hard last season by Covid.
Doesn't surprise me that schools/conferences are looking into any way to increase $$$.

I think politically it's in their best interest to not bow down and publicly oppose even if they're outnumbered. There is no bylaw I'm aware of that says they have to vote yes.

Update from Delly:

Greg Sankey has kept informed SEC presidents as talks with Texas & OU grew serious, sources tell
@SINow
.
Presidents can immediately take action after UT/OU notify the Big 12 of exit & submit an application for membership.
11 votes are needed. Only one (A&M) seems in opposition.

Honestly, the exact opposite will happen. A two loss SEC team would be even more likely to make the playoffs because of the gauntlet conference schedule they would be playing.

In the past, OU wasn’t allowed to leave OSU behind. There is some question if the state will allow it to happen this time.
I mean, you don’t come this far without having questions like that already a answered. Top notch business negotiators in the rant, I tell ya….
