Per sources.

@RossDellenger
A&M likely choose to leak story to Houston Chronicle during their day at SEC media days and had their AD present and ready to make a statement. This was in a last ditch effort to subvert plans.
SEC’s decision likely coming in 2-3 weeks, and is expected to be a unanimous “yes” despite Aggies efforts to block. Ags will likely have no choice but to vote yes publicly, per sources to the Late Kick’s Josh Pate.

Texas & Oklahoma officials reached out to SEC in late December/early January, sources close to the schools told @Stadium. “(UT & OU) have been in lockstep the whole time,” source said. “They decided then they were leaving. It was just figuring out where.”

Greg Sankey has kept informed SEC presidents as talks with Texas & OU grew serious, sources tell
@SINow
.
Presidents can immediately take action after UT/OU notify the Big 12 of exit & submit an application for membership.
11 votes are needed. Only one (A&M) seems in opposition.

This makes little sense to me. Just publicly say no, I'd have more respect for that.

This is probably related to the quality/availability of sources and how much they are wiling to say at this point. I have heard OU is being tighter lipped about this than some folks down in Texas.

Wait is this actually happening?

In the past, OU wasn’t allowed to leave OSU behind. There is some question if the state will allow it to happen this time.

Not sure why anyone in the SEC would want this (unless the SEC were to break away from the NCAA and have its own super conference, which I would be in favor of)
But this just makes it way harder to stand out and earn a playoff spot. Oklahoma has nearly always been in the Playoff, and everyone is always waiting for an excuse for Texas to be a national powerhouse again (being in the SEC would help the, recruit I Imagine).
Adding to big National programs looks great for the SEC as undeniably the best conference in the country, but for one it already was. And for two, it’s just going to really muddy the waters when it comes time for championship season. Everyone’s going to beat each other once or twice because of high quality opponents, and then some small no-namer like Boise St or UCF will eat a few spots

If that ad knew then that’s fricked up. He straight up acted shocked and said it was the first he’s heard of it.
Not that it matters, but just openly lying like that is just something i find a little messed up

So if the deal is done, when does Texas and Oklahoma come to the SEC? This year?

This has always been a false rumor. There is nothing legally or contractually tying them together. Source: I am an attorney in Oklahoma.

Well obviously not this season. I heard 2024
Posted on 7/23/21 at 10:20 am to Tigerpride18
But 2024 seems way too long.can they break the tv contracts because that’s when they end

It depends on if the Big 12 allows them out of the Grant of Rights deal. If not, they may wait 'til 2025 or choose to litigate it and bleed the Big 12 out with legal fees.
