OP is so correct. UVA and UNC would have been much better.

But adding UVA and UNC would diminish both Clemson and FSU (and the ACC competition) while also adding two more state markets for more $.
There's ZERO chance NC and UVA would add more money and more viewers than Clemson and FSU when it comes to national viewership.
The SEC didn't go after OU because of the Oklahoma City TV market.

Why not? Wouldn’t adding UNC and UVA cause massive carnage and leave a wasteland in its wake? The SEC network would be more profitable with some ESPN help.
Then, throw a scheduling alliance to the BIG 10 (one game a year) with the provision they get to 16. The ACC would be dead and Clemson, Georgia Tech, Louisville, and FSU with it.
Finally, stop playing the SEC East rivalry games. Death stroke.

UNC and UVA would have been a dream scenario…think the much more likely two would have been NC State and Va Tech. I would have much preferred adding those two than what we did.

UVA would give Ole Miss a fan base to try and out fratdouche. UK and UNC are of course long standing hated rivals. frick the Tar Heels in every hole possible.

In all seriousness how is A&M a better add than Texas.
Texas is about 100 miles west as the crow flies from A&M so geography isn't a factor. More to the point Texas has a 2:1 ratio of fan support in this state, and is more well known coast to coast.
They went to two titles games 2005 and 2009 and a huge Rose Bowl game vs Michigan in 2004. The best player out of either program is Earl Campbell by a country mile.
Texas was recruited to the SEC in 1991 (along with A&M) with only Texas politics (threatening state coffers) preventing that move.
Next thing you'll tell me South Carolina and Arkansas were better adds than Texas 30 years ago.
Irregardless to that, North Carolina and Virginia would be the best adds over Clemson and FSU as the latter just double up what the Gamecocks and Gators provide. (This is assuming the goal is not to weaken the ACC but rather to stretch and strengthen the SEC footprint and balance the football competition.

Typical Texas schmuck.

I’m not sure how it could effect what conference their athletics play in, but aren’t UNC and NC State actually a part of the same school system?
Posted on 8/1/21 at 9:49 pm to theGarnetWay
You would prob have to take the whole tobacco road system. No thanks.
UNC, Duke, Wake and NC state

Short term money trumps longterm judgement.
TU-A has destroyed or led to the demise of every conference it has ever been a part of. It is similar to continuing to go back to a crazy ex even after she's burned down every house you've ever lived in.

Do you actually think Clemson brings the exact same thing to the table as SC? The only people who watch both are in the Greenville market?
It's about nationally known brands and bringing in viewership from around the country.
Do you think a UNC vs Bama matchup comes close to a Clemson vs UGA matchup? Or Clemson vs LSU matchup?

I see this being posted frequently on the board yet what evidence is there that Texas ended the SWC and Big12?
Read this article from 1990
Arkansas to SEC
Arkansas took its ball home first and even then the SEC was eyeing Texas. If Texas testing the SEC waters sunk the SWC how does Arkansas who joined first not get blame, not to mention A&M would've left with Texas in 1991.
The Big12 became unstable because Nebraska couldn't compete any more without their prop 48 players. Their succession precipitated the other defections and it stemmed from purely fair competitive reasons (Texas had just finished a half decade of elite play).
There's no downside of Texas in the SEC. Every game they play against the Original 10 will be a huge event that week. You'll either love to defeat them or Texas will earn their place in the league with a win. And the games against the Big Six - LSU, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia and Saban will be the games of the week.
OT - Chapel Hill and Charlottesville will be great Roadies for the Original 10. I don't recall any of them playing there in the last decades.

Okay so what's the end game here. Clemson is dominating the ACC. Bringing them in adds another heavyweight and gives the ACC a chance to send a weak champion to the playoff.
Clemson in the SEC would almost make the SECCG the Super Bowl and the Playoff title the Pro Bowl.
I'd add 16 teams is enough to have a feel of a conference, and having everyone play each other once during a 4 year stretch.

They'll just meet again in the playoffs provided it goes to 12 teams and I'm not even sure the SECCG survives realignment.

They are. UNC runs the wolfpack.
Which is why its more like SEC goes with UNC. I dont think North Carolina could stand watching NCSU make more money than them with the hubris that exists in Chapel Hill.

Good call. Looks like it is these two ACC blue blood brands that want in on the SEC.
RIP to UNC and UVA football then. They'll have no legitimatacy with the likes of Syracuse, BC, and Wake filling up their win columns.
Notre Dame would probably still commit to five ACC games a year since their schedule is pretty stout with USC, Michigan and Stanford every year.

Texas isn't doing anything that the SEC conference/powers that be doesn't already support if not endorse themselves. Texas won't yield that authority in SEC.
Quit listening to the pawns & failures we allegedly "screwed over" all those years. Time will tell, but the "dinnit do nuffins/victim crowd" should @ least have you tapping the breaks by any form of wisdom.

Nah. They are pompous like Texas fans are.
