LSU is sort of the anti-Arkansas as far as campuses. The actual LSU campus is very nice. The area around it... meh... not so much.

Its been some time since I've been there but I remember South Carolina had a really nice campus and its in a wonderful town.
South Carolina has a nice campus. The fact that it is so spread out across downtown Columbia sort of detracts from it's aesthetic value. In order to truly appreciate it, you have to get out and walk around for a while. Five Points kind of sucks compared to Athens or Tiger Town, though. At least it used to. I don't know the current state of it.

Those pictures of each campus in the OP really drive your point home well

Its hard to argue this. Tennessee might have the prettiest area of the conference but that campus is blaeh

Ole Miss, Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas, would be my 4 most beautiful campuses in the conference just based on aesthetics
The only problem with Auburn's campus is every building looks the exact same.

Easy to say now in hindsight, but in 1997 it was an all around disaster zone where the barely operational mill existed because it was too expensive to tear down.
Atlantic Steele absolutely needed to be torn down but it coulda been developmented in a much better way.
West Midtown was gonna take off with or without it.I lived there at the time and the VAST majority of people who lived in the area hated the concept and few went over there to shop, dine etc
Those high rise condos are trash along with the townhomes and I can't think of any good/popular restaurants there. It also attracts a bad element because of the easy access from the interstate.

But so would Centennial Park and some other developed areas of the last 20 years
Centennial Park woulda been a disaster getting in and out of and there isn't enough room.
Atlantic Station woulda been ideal.Overlooking Midtown and within walking distance of all the Midtown office complexes and close to Marta and interstate.
Doesn't really matter. Ted Turner/ACOG was committed to downtown and they weren't gonna build it there anyway

I don't think anyone would have thought in 1997 that the Atlantic Steele site or Westside would have developed organically. All in all it was best for Atlantic Station to be built at the time by a developer. I remember they thought about putting the Olympic Stadium there but determined the site involved too much cleanup.
Looking back, 22 years later, sure we can think of better uses for the site.

Completely agree. The buildings on campus have improved, but there is still a lot of shite architecture from the 1970s and 1980s left.

We can all agree that would have been a pretty great site for the Braves - and probably pushed forward a MARTA spur of some sort.
Oh well - things have worked out ok.

AM and MSU are the worst. Both have nice clean modern buildings but the terrain is just too bare to give it a nice atmosphere .
Ole Miss is quaint and very Mississippi. I lived in Vicksburg and Flowood and I think Ole Miss captures “ the feel “ of the State of Mississippi.
LSU is the same. The oaks and the architecture are phenomenal. Too bad the north side of campus is a poor urban ghetto.
Bama is nice. Georgia is better than this thread indicates . Florida isn’t bad.

Of course it had to be torn down and maybe organically was the wrong word.
There was no "master plan" for the rest of West Midtown at the time.It pretty much took off because because of the location and people moving back in town and it was relatively inexpensive housing at the time.
Cenntiniel Park,The Aquarium and WOC helped the area.
When I first moved there I used to see hookers walking along Howell Mill near that seedy hotel off the interstate and some bad folks were living in apts down Collier and all that has been torn down.
Now it's being overdeveloped and traffic is a nightmare but it's a much better area

Georgia is a decent campus, but downtown Athens is what makes it one of the best locales in Southeast.

It's wild the development of West Midtown and the areas East of Downtown and West of Decatur (Old Fourth, Kirkwood, Edgewood, etc).
We looked at houses in all those areas in all those areas when we bought our first house back in 2009ish - we really wanted to do it but had a baby on the way and just couldn't quite get comfortable (ended up in Medlock Park/North Decatur).
If we'd bought any of the houses we got close on we would have a sold a few years back for literally double our initial cost. Just insane.

Holy shite Knoxville is the worst campus ive ever been to in my life. Its all boring faded gross block buildings. The city is shite too.
Nuke it. Shitty fans too. Just nothing good about the whole organization.

Its where I live now.Love the area/neighborhood.
I'm sure my old place is worth at least 3 times what I paid for it but traffic was just unbearable on Howell Mill,Collier and Defoors and they keep developing.
Back to the original point though.GT has really been helped by what's going on.Tha campus is night and day from what it used to be.
