Coaching wise, I was impressed with his WR development. Look at Ladd McConkey and AD Mitchell. Yep was never a fan of his recruiting outside of George Pickens is that a product of out ball control offense, possibly?

He’s a good coach but he’s the weakest one on our staff. He couldn’t control the WR that started with Pickens and rolled to some other cats. Monken had to set the room straight more than once. He’ll recruit Louisiana well but he’s not a top notch recruiter. UGA needs to slide Monken to WR coach and hire a legit qb coach.

Georgia’s receivers were well coached this last year particularly. Great job this season Georgia, you definitely deserved to win.

Indifferent. But whenever you are building a coaching staff from scratch and can get a guy from the reigning NC winner, especially when he's a local guy, it's not a bad hire.

He’s a good person and really smart. Subpar recruiter relative to the rest of the UGA staff and he lost the respect of the receiver room; Monken has been coaching them for a couple of years now.

Maybe a change of scenery and being closer to home will be what he needs to regain his footing but the potential is certainly there.

Thanks!

I've seen others mention it, and I had not noticed it before....but after thinking about it....it seemed wen freshmen came in they flourished under him, but stalled after their freshman year. Almost like he was a good notch above high school coaches but not a developer beyond basics.

I don't know if other Georgia fans will agree with that or not.....but after I heard it and started to think about it it kind of made sense.

As noted he was probably the weakest of our coaches, but we have, imo, a strong coaching staff as far as recruiting and developing. I think he is from New Orleans (or that area?) so it makes sense.

This is true and something I had forgotten. It's rumored we might lose 4-5 receivers to the portal because the room was not where it should have been.

Pretty good coach but I think he missed on the top guys for a couple of years.

Always got worried that he was going to decimate a few shoulders during the celebrations

Looking at you Ladd

So will they still leave?

Pros
Recruiting has been up at the position since he came onboard (traditionally one of the positions to lack top 100 players).
Freshmen performances have been consistently better than any point previously for the dawgs (pickens, blaylock, rosemy-jack saint, burton, mitchell, mcconkey).

Cons
He isnt given credit for the recruiting pulls.
He has had players want to up and leave and other coaches have needed to step in
Despite success as true freshmen, players havent made that big leap forward (often injuries have plagued the room... but we dont have guys pushing all conference).

I think he is better than the uga fanbase gives him credit. But the uga fanbase is expecting an upgrade (the bar isnt that high).

Edit: over half of our receivers have personal trainers from high school. That explains a big reason for the quality of play from the freshmen. Terrence Edwards (TE WR Academy) coaches half of our guys it seems.

I would think so. They have to do so Monday, or Tuesday. I would imagine that their decision is made up by now. They've probably talked to other landing spots.

I mea, only one is in the portal so far, so maybe, maybe no? Crap. I don't know. We'll see.

Hey, what I heard was talk. We all know how that is. It may be true and it may not be. I don't think anybody necessarily wants him gone so much as if he does leave we probably won't be grieving over it.

This is probably true. We have so many other coaches pulling in 5* talent that we have come to expect it from everybody and with our offense the past few years that is a big ask.

He's probably better than we give him credit for, but he is not as strong as many of our other coaches right now.

That would be a violation.
If there is a uga recruit that he coached, he could not be an onfield staff member until they are upperclassmen.

Are you sure? I thought the rule was they had to be an on the field coach.
