Jay Tate mentioned it on his show "braindrain" saturday night after the georgia game and now Mike Marshall mentioned it as well last night

that would be an interesting choice.
ETA: not sure how that helps Auburn's offense.

Probably wouldn't help it immediately, but we would hope Steele hires a competent OC like any new HC.

Id take Gus as an OC, maybe even coach if our admin gets a trigger finger

After seeing how Kevin Steele's baylor teams were, I pray to God this is true.

Are you guys really going to make a change if you lose to Bama?

After Orgeron, I’m not going to judge a coach on their previous coaching stint. It really is like catching lightening in a bottle though.

While true, I think it is a lot easier to transition from a position coach to head coach than from a coordinator to head coach. We have seen so many coordinators that thrive but once they are given more responsibility, it starts to become an issue. I wouldn't want Steele to change anything he is doing because its working well right now.

He’s been an amazing DC, but does he even want to be the HC again? They are completely different jobs with completely different responsibilities.

Auburn is poor and can't buy out Gus
Plus Gus getting them 8 wins a year is historically good for Auburn
They are a lot like a Bo Pellini coached Nebraska team. Irrelevant but trying to hang on.

Like Coach O, I'm sure Steele has learned zero since his failure at being HC the first time around.
That said, Steele shouldn't be given the job. Bring in Kiffin.

Here is the deal, CKS is leaving at the end of the season if Gus is the Head Coach, period. The feeling is let CKS be the head coach and hire a true OC and let them run the show. Profit.
With regards to the money, it will cost us basically 13 million. That is the way it works now.
ETA: Do not confuse Mike Marshall with Philip Marshall. Mike knows nothing. But here is his quote: If there’s a change, my guess is Kevin Steele would be the choice.

O is an exception.

Question. Why are you posting this on the SEC Rant? Do you want your Georgia and Bama friends to make you feel better about our coach? Think they will give you some good advice?

It does feel like there's a new narrative coming out regarding the money. From Phillip Marshal:
--------
The buyout thing is overplayed. First, no one has to write a check for $25 million. It is paid over time. Second, the next coach won't likely make $7 million a year, so you are saving money there. If they decide they want to make a move, they can make a move, the football facility will still be built. I don't know what's going to happen, but it's not going to be a situatioun where they believe they need to make a change but don't do it because it's too expensive.

Gus' pay this year is $6.8MM with a $26.6MM buyout, and that's just HIS contract. Auburn would also have to buyout the rest of that staff who's currently the 6th highest paid staff. Gus gets 50% of the buyout within 30 days of termination and the rest spread out over a few years.
