Maybe it isn’t all the football fanatics who need a little better perspective. Perhaps it is you, Chuck. Decency won over political ideology in an election. Saban is a football coach. Football is a game.

I was surprised to read that Saban favored Roy Moore?

I'm surprised you read that, too, since it's unequivocally false.

The new left wing talking point is that anything you don't denounce constantly, you support.

So if you haven't publicly denounced torturing animals recently I can accuse you of tacitly supporting animal abuse, since you never denounced it.

And then even if you do denounce it, I can claim your denouncement was not forceful or frequent enough and still attack you.

Welcome to modern political discourse.

Don't know if it is true or not, however Saban is a devout Catholic and they are pretty staunch about the sanctity of life and being anti-abortion. If he did support Moore, it is not really surprising.

Wrong move. Should have remained silent and let it pass. Other liberal whacks will start jumping in and you got shitfest for Saban as the playoffs start.

Moore losing may silence them though.

Nancy Pelosi, says hola.

Many Catholics rank open borders higher than anti-abortion, so more democrat than anything. Especially northern catholics.

It's almost unbelievable that anyone would support Moore, let alone Saban.

I've lost all respect for anyone under 75 that voted for Moore.

Where do you get that from? I know he's a friend of Joe Manchin in his home state but that doesn't make him a democrat. Saban will never disclose his politics and has said so. It's just not smart to do that as a football coach, or any public business for that matter.

Because he's an old school blue collar, Catholic, West Virginia guy.

Who knows what he is now, but considering roughly 95% of that group has voted Democrat for generations I would put heavy money on him growing up that way.

We don’t need or want Saban to tell us how to vote. We hold our football coaches to a very high standard, but we’re much more concerned with whether he’s going to play man-to-man or zone coverage against Clemson than who he thinks should be our senator. As a matter of fact, if he tried to tell us who to vote for, God help him if he loses a game. Thankfully, Saban knows this. He’s paid well to coach football. He isn’t paid to be our moral compass.

Amen

That's the way the entire South was 30 years ago. Hard work and self reliance is a Republican theme. It just took a long time to get over hating Lincoln before the South could vote GOP again.
