Should this have been illegal motion? RB was getting set when Tua made the "real" clap.

He never moved his feet, he just bent back over. Same thing as any other quick snap when lineman hurry at the LOS.

The clap doesn't indicate when the actual snap occurs. By the time the ball is snapped, the RB was set.

This. It was a one off, but it was executed to perfection.
Saban had mentioned how LSU gets help from the sideline pre-snap in one of his press conferences earlier in the week, so it was something they clearly noticed and decided to exploit.

At some point before the snap yes, but if you want to be technical and count his upper body motion as movement then you could say he is the man in motion. At that point it's perfectly legal as long as he isn't moving towards the LOS.

Thanks, the clap vs snap element was unclear to me. Some former refs I've talked to said they would've called a flag, maybe they didn't have as much experience with these types of offenses though

Yea it would have been much closer if the snap was right on the clap, but it seemed to me the snap was a solid 1-1.5 seconds after the clap.
