He was well protected at Bama and still got hurt. I also think he was rushed back from injury too soon.

Damn, you aren't wrong about Hawaiian QBs and injuries

Mariota - always hurt
Tua - always hurt
M. Milton - horrible injury
Gabriel - hurt

Probably just coincidence but it's definitely a pattern.

I think so too. After being injured vs UT and then missed the next game, I was surprised when he trotted out to start the game vs LSU. Then, the next game, I think Miss. State, he was still not healthy, nor as fast and mobile, and injured the hip. I don't think he's over that and probably never will be.
