From Jack Crevaille on the rant

quote:

What Ferentz would like to see is better rules enforcement. “I think college basketball is a great example of that. There’s one school in particular, it’s amazing to me. I think the AD ended up getting fired, there’s a lot of collateral damage, and the guy who was on tape is still coaching there. Make that make sense to me. I just don’t understand it. But there’s an easy answer why; they’re winning. I mean, simple."

I love how B1G schools have a football related scandal every year but act like paying players and lowering academic standards is where they draw the line

Chris Doyle, Iowa's S&C coach for 21 years, fired due to racist behavior - ESPN

quote:

Doyle, who had led Iowa's strength and conditioning program since 1999, was placed on paid administrative leave June 6 after a large group of former players had spoken out about mistreatment in the program. Most of the allegations came from black players and focused on Doyle.

Some players also made allegations toward head coach Kirk Ferentz and several on-field assistants.

Doyle, the nation's highest-paid strength coach at $800,000 annually, will receive 15 months' salary, which equates to two payments of $556,249.50. He and his family will receive benefits from Iowa for 15 months or until he finds employment elsewhere. He is also prohibited from seeking employment at Iowa or holding strength and conditioning camps at the university. Doyle's son, Dillon, a linebacker for Iowa, announced last week he would be entering the NCAA's transfer portal.

quote:

"Coach Doyle probably has more power than any position coach there," former Iowa defensive back Diauntae Morrow told ESPN last week. "If Coach Ferentz is the CEO, Coach Doyle is the COO. Coach Doyle is the longest-tenured coach with Coach Ferentz, so what does that say? You're working with the guy for that many years, you mean to tell me you don't know what type of person he is?"

quote:

In January 2011, 13 Iowa players were hospitalized with rhabdomyolysis, a stress-induced syndrome that can damage cells and cause kidney damage, following a strenuous squat workout led by Doyle. Iowa commissioned a review and found that similar workouts had been done in the past but that the timing of the workout, after the winter break, likely contributed to the hospitalizations. The review found that Doyle did not use the workout to punish players. In April 2011, Ferentz named Doyle as Iowa's assistant coach of the year.

Maybe sit this one out Kirk

Well if you just take away the name of the school (Iowa and LSU) and treat the article and statement for the content then that coach has it right. It's when our schools are part of the problem that we disagree. Amirite?

No one actually cares about paying players. It doesn’t matter in the least. No one magically becomes more skilled or athletic simply because they have money. People of shitty teams, or teams like Iowa that can’t get over the hump, cling to moral superiority because it’s easier to believe you lose on the field and recruiting because you don’t “cheat” then the simple reality that none of these athletic freaks from Miami, Houston, Atlanta wants to play in your cornfield towns where 99% of the population doesn’t look like you.

Kirk Fererntz really is a great guy. If he doesn't like someone then I'll trust his judgement that the person in question is a true POS

Yeah I am not sure that this is the same thing as paying players. I know rhabdo is serious, but the rest of that bullshite at Iowa is a bunch of idiocy from the woke crowd.

I honestly couldn’t care less if they did. I don’t care if a defensive end can read if 100,000 people are lined up to watch him sack the QB every Saturday, while the next day someone is doing the same thing in front of 75,000 people for 15 mil a year.

This is the dumbest thing I’ve read on here in a while. Nobody has ever said money makes you play better. Money gets you the best players. Free agency 101.

It depends on what winning is to some schools.

Never coaching in a sweet 16 in 9 years of being a HC isnt winning to me

Since when has Iowa been considered a shitty team? They've been to bowl games like 13 of the last 14 years!
