Winning Percentage against Top 10 Opponents Since 2000:

75.0%- Georgia (6-2)
61.5%- Florida (8-5)
56.5%- LSU (13-10)
52.2%- Auburn (12-11)
47.0%- Alabama (8-9)

Winning Percentage against Top 5 Opponents Since 2000:

55.5%- Florida (5-4)
50.0%- Auburn (7-7)
41.67%- LSU (5-7)
27.3%- Alabama (3-8)
0.0%- Georgia (0-1)

Some notes:

*Alabama is certainly the most underwhelming atmosphere for major SEC stadiums. Saban was coach in just over half of their games played against Top 10 opponents this century. Even under Saban, though Bama is 6-3 at home vs. Top 10 opponents and 2-3 against Top 5 opponents.... you would expect better considering their overall strength during the period.

*The sample size for Georgia and Florida is small due to being in the East and always playing each other in Jacksonville.

*Auburn's 7 total wins against Top 5 opponents in Jordan-Hare is impressive. I doubt any other program in America can claim that this century.

*Alabama is certainly the most underwhelming home atmosphere in the SEC for the major stadiums. You can try to blame Shula and Dubose for this, but 19 of the 23 games played against Top 10 teams this century in Bryant-Denny were under Nick Saban. Saban is a respectable 5-6 against Top 5 teams at home but considering how dominant Alabama has been under Saban, that's not very impressive relative to their overall strength.

The blue hairs kill Alabama's home field advantage.

That said they just set the SEC record with 31 straight home wins prior to the LSU loss.

Imagine that, the West teams have more games played against top teams, which raises the chance of a lower percentage.

Congrats dogs.

And how do you only have one game at home versus a top 5 since 2000?

So lucky yall in the SEC Least.

Auburn deserves an asterisk.

At night, they are the toughest place to play. UGA escaped with a win partly due to the 3:30 start time this year.

That place was rocking in our 4th quarter after the sun had set.

Winning against Top 5 Opponents in no way illustrates frickin tough stadium atmospheres Kyle. Come on man.

Sample size for SC is just as skewed as UF's and UGA's if we really must go there.

frick this is as arbitrary as it gets.

And I know SC has beaten at least three Top 5 teams in Williams Brice since 2000, maybe more if I think about it a little more.

LOL. Georgia has only faced 1 top 5 opponent and 8 top 10 opponents in Athens since 2000.

In comparison, LSU has faced 23 top 10 opponents and won over half of those games.

So LSU has played almost 4 times as many games in Tiger Stadium as UGA has played in Athens? Wow.

I wonder about those statistics.
Perhaps those were simply the best teams overall, and stadia weren’t a determining factor?
Data from some good ol’ regression analyses would be interesting!

So you're saying LSU and Auburn have played 3 times as many top 10 opponents as UGA at home since 2000? Even Bama has played more than twice as many as UGA.

Well, THAT is interesting.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, OP.

I think the shakers kill the crowd noise as well. I have observed so many people in my section shake those noiseless things without making a single sound.

Scratch that. I revised my note on Bama because I accidentally looked at LSU's record during the period. Bama's stats still are less than what you'd expect from them.

Yep. I've been clamoring for realignment for years now because I'm tired of always hosting Mizzou, Kentucky, Vandy, and Tennessee. And while Auburn is generally decent, they always seem to have their "down" years when they come to Athens.

Playing Florida in JAX every year also takes away a lot of potential big home games... though I do like the tradition of playing in Jacksonville.
