Not really since everyone is questioning the list. You should probably clarify the OP.
May want to eliminate "major" sports too because most people don't consider anything outside of CFB and MBB as major.

The insecurity in this OP, my God, it is palpable.

Fair enough. But I would think it is obvious from listing five active coaches. If I was listing all-time coaches, Bear Bryant and Skip Bertman would have obviously been on the list.

quote:I don't think there's any doubt that Mulkey is a Top 5 coach in WBB overall. It's very debatable whether she's one of the top 5 coaches in the SEC, any sport. Career-wise, she and Staley are both dominant, but they're competing in a sport with Geno Auriemma being the only other active elite, and 95% of schools not putting much effort into winning. And the talent pool is a lot smaller in WBB, too- you can make 10 ultra-competitive teams in football, MBB, baseball, etc. You're not going to get that many teams that can compete in girl's basketball.
The insecurity in this OP, my God, it is palpable.

Replace Mulkey with Kirby….replace Kirby with Nate.

BTW : you might want to correct your title to "Current active SEC coaches"
I didnt make this thread but id say based off how the OP gave his opinion, it was implied its active coaches.

if we’re talking all time, any list that does not contain Skip Bertman is a farce. If we’re talking current, the list should absolutely have Nate Oats on it because of what he’s done to a basketball program in Alabama that was dead since Gottfried and I’m not even a basketball fan.

Yes I get it was based on current coaches.
Just all time then for this one

Dawn can make a claim to 3 titles. her team was the easy #1 in 2020 and had just 1 loss. If she wins this year I think she could claim she has 4 which is more than Kim. That said, Kim has a higher winning % and an impressive last 20 years.
#1 They are both well behind Pat
#2 Kim and Pat played at La Tech and were coached by Barmore. Part of Kim's success at Baylor was having Barmore leave La tech for Baylor. She was also able to land Griner.
#3 Dawn took UVA - as a player - to 3 Finals Fours and pretty sure the Hoo's have not been back since. She also played in the pros. She was from Philly and the Owls were decent at that time (Chaney was coaching the men) so Dawn did not walk into an empty shell.
Big picture, neither Kim or Dawn really had to build from nothing.
Both have a long way to go to catch Pat
One thing Dawn had going for her was playing at an ACC school linked her into ESPN early and opened some doors that might have been closed otherwise.

smart 2..Mulkey hasn't done jack in sec yet

I don't know enough about the minor sports, but this would seem to be the ranking in the major sports. Who would be in your top five?
1. Nick Saban - Georgia has taken over, but Saban is still the Dean of coaches in the SEC.
2. Kim Mulkey - three national titles and an amazing rebuild at LSU in just one season.
3. Tim Corbin - two national titles and a long history of contention.
4. Kirby Smart - consecutive national titles and has built a monster at UGA.
5. Dawn Staley - two national titles and built the best program in the country at SC.
I didn't know for sure who 2 and 3 were. I know 5 because of the national anthem stuff but I probably knew her before that.
I knew the name Mulkey but wasn't sure if she was basketball or gymnastics. I wouldn't have known Tim Corbin if he sat next to me.

Is she?
#1 = Pat
#2 = Geno
#3 = TVD (stanford)
What most miss about the SEC is how badly Pat wrecked other SEC schools like LSU (pre Mulkey) and UGA that got to lots of Final Fours but got no father. Without Pat at UT, Andy at UGA would be much better known.

If we’re throwing out rec sports, Suzanne Youcalen won 10 NC’s as UGA’s gymnastics coach.

UK rifle coach Harry Mullins deserves to be on there if we're going to go outside the Big 3.

Pretty soon it will be:
Kim Mulkey
Brian Kelly
Jay Johnson
Pick the order
Soon we will get basketball fixed.
