Do note that there are some big gaps in ranking score. When you consider AP-All Americans, 4 and 5 star recruits, Heisman winners, etc...
To rank the states by elite talent produced, a list was compiled of every 5-star recruit and every AP first-team All-American from 2010-16. Based on the state in which Scout.com reported they played high school, each player was then assigned to his home state. Any player who was only a 5-star recruit or only an All-American was worth one point. Players who were both* or who were two-time first-team All-Americans counted for three points. Heisman winners were worth five points, while 5-star Heisman winners were worth seven. The higher the score, the better the state ranked.
1. 91 Texas
2. 83 Florida
3. 55 California
4. 39 Georgia
5. 32 Alabama
6. 22 Louisiana
7. 19 Ohio
8. 17 Virginia
9. 16 Pennsylvania
10. 14 Illinois
Frankly, these are a bit surprising. While there is GENERAL correlation to population, Alabama and Louisiana are very much anomalies with that regard.
Finally, note that this list was from the summer of 2017. It would be interesting to see how it changes over time.

These rankings are always so fricking ignorant.
Why not just make it a list of the most populous States minus the East Coast(they dont play footbaw)? What are they telling us? That the State with the most people has the most people X? Yeah, well, no shite.
Lets see....
1. 29M ppl
2. 21M ppl
3. 40M ppl
4. 11M ppl
5. 5M ppl
6. 4.5M ppl
7. 12M ppl
What do you really want to know? What is the most productive State at producing NFL talent?
Per capita.
Only stat the matters.
Thats whats going to tell scouts and recruiters what the chances are of you picking out an NFL player at any given high school football game.
Go back and look at the past 20 years or so. The States that have put the most players in the NFL per capita, historically speaking, were always MS and LA and it wasnt even close. It obviously changes from year to year but those were the two States that were consistently in the top along with AL, SC, GA and FL.
CA and TX are hurt by their huge populations. They should be producing a lot more NFL talent considering their population size. Especially CA. Sounds like a fail to me.
And its not just NFL players.
Heres all NBA players ever.
Heres all major sports. This includes hockey.
