The two issues are A. the soil still has the Spike in it and B. they'd have to dig up the entire sidewalk and out into the street if they wanted to put the trees in the same spots. You have to remember, these trees aren't out in the middle of a field.
The Spike will have to be dealt with, as it still shows up in soil samples, and the sidewalk (maybe street) will have to be dealt with no matter where the trees go.

That said, the drawings I have seen seem to show that the trees won't be in the exact same spot. They will be moved back (north and west respectively) to line up more directly with the outer edge of the gates. This will open the corner itself up a bit more and act as a "funnel" through Main Gate and onto the walkwalk toward Hargis/Langdon/Samford.

Cool. I was wondering how it did after the move? The root system on one that large would be extensive.

It's doing fine so far. I need to find a link to the cost of moving that thing. It costs the taxpayers a pretty penny.

An estimated 300k to move that tree.

Right. They were live oaks right and typically more suitable for the coast? There are some pretty damn impressive species of oaks in Alabama, here's to Auburn finding some even more impressive replacements

Yep. I have one of the offspring? (now a 3 year old tree that auburn sold prior to the poisoning) from those live oaks...and i'd be lying if i didn't say that thing was a bitch to keep alive.

I think they're planning on using overcup oaks as replacements which should take hold pretty quickly and let us get back to our arguably childish, but certainly fun, tradition of rolling trees.

Now if only we coudl start winning so we could have an opportunity.

The concept of a single deranged person or small group taking away a positive thing from others doesn't sit well with this Bama man, nor should it with any American.
AU will be spending over a million dollars on concrete work and landscaping for this project. With that much money being spent, it should be very impressive.

Yeah, I bet they get themselves some large trees to replace those lost. It obviously means a lot to the community. They'll step up and get it done.

Gotta remember, this shite will be milked for every last drop.

Yeah, because Auburn wanted the face of the University of Alabama fanbase to poison the trees.

You're right, that was amazing.

I wish there was footage of the inset of the tree. I having a hard time imagining how they did it without leaving part of the transport support buried underneath it.

On another note, I mentioned last Saturday that I'm surprised that the oaks on Donahue aren't going to be rolled instead of stringing a bunch of wires on Toomers Corner.

The tradition started by rolling wires hanging over Toomer's Corner.....better to go back to that than move the site...

Why not replace them with Live Oaks again?

I would think Live Oaks would make a better ornamental sense it will keep its leaves through football season whereas the Overcup will lose its leaves toward the end of the season.
